Merry Otiz grumbled quietly to herself, but she dared not let any of her frustration show.
If her standing in front of Flossie Wright allowed only for caution, then standing in front of Glenn Hutchinson undoubtedly incited fear and caution.
Last time she uttered something that offended Glenn Hutchinson, and the resulting losses were beyond imagination. How could she dare risk upsetting him again now?
Merry forced a rather concerned smile, definitely not as arrogant and flamboyant as she was earlier.
However, before Merry could finish pleading her case, Glenn Hutchinson was already standing next to Flossie, his expression stern, "Why should she eat your leftovers?"
His terse mention of "leftovers" effectively silenced even Merry and Helen Wright’s attempts at explanation.
With him insisting on his viewpoint, was there any room left for them to argue?
Moreover, Helen had always harbored the intention of humiliating Flossie, assuming that Flossie, careless as she used to be, wouldn’t pay attention to such minor details. But unexpectedly not only did Flossie notice, but Glenn Hutchinson suddenly appeared to unconditionally support her.
"These breakfast items, Miss has not touched any of them."
A servant, seeing the situation, spoke up anxiously on behalf of Helen. However, she was met with a curious gaze from Flossie. For some reason, a sense of fear arose from within her, leaving her stunned and prompting her to press her lips together tightly.
Glenn Hutchinson turned his gaze and said casually, "If I let a dog sniff the food before serving it to your Miss, would she still eat it?"
The servant blinked without understanding at first, but a moment later it suddenly dawned on her as his words sank in. She glanced nervously at Helen and Merry and was met with a furious look from Merry, as though she was blaming her for speaking out of turn.
Without a doubt, Glenn Hutchinson’s words were a direct insult to Helen.
Even Flossie wouldn’t dare compete with him in a battle of words.
"I apologize for my oversight," offered Helen, choking back her resentment. She slowly rose from her seat and looked at Flossie and Glenn in a gentle manner, "I’ll have the kitchen prepare a fresh breakfast right away."
Despite her polite phrasing and clear intention of backing down, Helen was nearly at her breaking point.
Being insulted like such and still having to speak to them amicably was more than just an inconvenience. Her usually gentle and headed demeanor felt like a well-established image that one mistake would leave a bad impression of her, especially now that she was staying in the Wright Family home. She could not afford to be seen negatively by Regan Wright.
But how could she swallow her anger and resentment while being humiliated to this degree?
However, with the circumstances beyond her control, she had no other choice but to bear it.
"No need." Glenn Hutchinson declined coldly, turning to look at Flossie and naturally draping an arm over her shoulder as their gazes locked, "We’ll go out for breakfast."
"Go out for breakfast?"
Merry exclaimed in astonishment. She tried to stop them, but they had already turned around, showing no intention of heeding her words, and walked straight out of the door.
During the entire event, Grady Wright, who had been quietly eating his breakfast, had been observing. His dark eyes were swirling with intrigue and amusement as he watched Glenn Hutchinson and Flossie leave.
"Mom, what do we do now?"
Here, a rather pensive Helen approached Merry and asked anxiously.
If they refuse breakfast at home and now insist on going out to eat, if Regan Wright catches wind of this, it could lead to questions about her earlier actions. If Regan thinks she was out to "humiliate" Flossie, who knows how he might react. Even if Regan doesn’t probe further, his chauvinistic nature would make him think that they did something wrong, leading to them offending Glenn Hutchinson their guest and inevitable criticism.
Merry pondered for a moment, but her face soon relaxed. Patting Helen’s hand and speaking with a hint of deeper intent, she assured her, "Flossie likes to have fun, and going out to eat with her boyfriend is no big deal."
Obviously, this was just an excuse.
Maxwell Moore, ten minutes later.
"What’s wrong with the car?"
Flossie followed Glenn Hutchinson to the garage and stared at Glenn’s sports car, completing a circle around it, her face puzzled, "What happened?"
Earlier on, Glenn Hutchinson had immediately asked Flossie to summon a new chauffeur without even looking at his car. Clearly, the car had some issues.
"The brakes have failed."
Glenn Hutchinson shot the car a swift glance, as if he had complete control over the situation.
Knocking on the car hood, Flossie nodded thoughtfully, "In the midst of winter, the roads are indeed slippery."
It seems like someone behind the scenes had already started planning to take their lives.
Soon enough, the new chauffeur arrived, smiling broadly. Although his smile wasn’t entirely pleasant, he was warmly welcoming towards them.
"Miss, where do you two want to go? I can take you there."
Getting into the driver’s seat, the new chauffeur set his gaze on the two people in the back via the rear-view mirror, his grin slowly fading.
Without even lifting an eyelid, Glenn casually commanded, "To Hutchinson’s."
The new driver responded, a fierce light flickering in his eyes as he started the engine and drove out of the Wright Family’s gate.
