Each one is a vibrant life.
She would rather have fewer promising trainees in the future than go through the sacrifice of those she has trained and sent out.
If the incident with Belinda Nichols’s sacrifice hadn’t happened, Flossie Wright would never have been so cautious, nor would she have spent so much effort on their training plans. She could have easily set a standard: keep those who qualify, and let go of those who don’t.
But now, it’s different.
She needs to understand not only one’s abilities but also their character and whether they can accept disappearing in the prime of their lives.
She began to understand why Glenn Hutchinson was so strict and had different ideas when selecting their batch back then.
Analyzing the room for growth amongst the female trainees and comparing their achievements over ten days, Flossie Wright methodically analyzed each one, eliminating those she judged unsuitable, and only printed the final list before the meeting.
"Sister-in-law, why are you also..."
Upon entering the Conference Room and seeing the list in Flossie Wright’s hand, Joshua Bailey asked with a smile.
"Conveniently." Flossie Wright casually twirled the pen in her hand and replied absentmindedly.
Joshua Bailey pondered for a long time, unable to find words to continue the conversation, so he quietly took a seat opposite Flossie Wright.
Soon, Dallion Collins and Jude Marsh, the pair of good buddies, arrived on time.
No one dared to sit beside Flossie Wright, resulting in an odd situation where the three of them sat on one side, and Flossie sat alone on the other.
"Compare the two lists and discuss any non-overlapping items."
Flossie Wright handed the list in her hand to Joshua Bailey.
Taking on this task, Joshua Bailey then handed the men’s trainee list to Dallion Collins and Jude Marsh for comparison.
Soon enough, the group engaged in a lively discussion about the trainees’ fates, and the quiet office gradually filled with the sound of debate.
It couldn’t be called controversial, just a sensible and reasonable analysis and discussion.
They couldn’t decide a trainee’s fate; they were merely discussing the list based on their own understanding. Ultimately, the list they selected would need to be reviewed by Glenn Hutchinson before being finalized.
After nearly half an hour of discussion, they finally decided on the list of those to be eliminated.
Joshua Bailey brought over his notebook and was the first to send the list to Glenn Hutchinson.
No one hurried to leave.
Starting tomorrow, the trainees would participate in wilderness survival training. As per the usual rules, not much had changed since last time; they needed to determine the route and the group members they’d encounter along the way, then once again submit it to Glenn Hutchinson for review.
"Still using the old routine for trainee evaluation?" Flossie Wright asked, supporting her chin with one hand, not in a rush.
"It’s been slightly improved," Joshua Bailey immediately replied.
"Speaking of," Flossie Wright started slowly, tapping her finger on the wilderness survival plan, a smirk tugging at her lips, "last time, I got docked fifty points... How come I didn’t see this method of deduction?"
The three of them exchanged a meaningful glance.
Is this settling old scores?
With trainee evaluations, it’s hardly possible to deduct too many points, since it’s just the beginning. However, special individuals require special treatment, and back then, Captain Hutchinson’s "special care" of Flossie Wright was quite evident from any angle.
"No need to be nervous," Flossie Wright chuckled lightly, "I’m just asking."
"Well," sensing Joshua Bailey’s pleading look, Dallion Collins reluctantly suggested, "you’d better ask the Captain about that."
"Was it his decision?" Flossie Wright’s eyes narrowed slightly.
The three refrained from speaking.
Flossie Wright almost figured it out entirely.
Sure enough, Glenn Hutchinson was the one causing trouble behind the scenes.
But, bringing up old issues now, there’s no point in arguing.
"I recommend Luna Vaughan, Callie Stewart, and Nancy Phillips take one route."
Putting down the pen in her hand, Flossie Wright leaned back against the chair.
"The three of them are top-ranked in ability; such a distribution could easily cause discontent," Joshua Bailey said, his expression turning serious.
Placing too many strong individuals in one group can indeed raise criticism and even be accused of favoritism. During previous allocations, they usually considered an even distribution of abilities.
Flossie Wright lifted her eyelid slightly, "The premise of this issue is that they will cooperate."
Joshua Bailey sank into contemplation.
Admittedly, Flossie Wright’s line of thinking was somewhat different, and it was quite intriguing.
She was probing for personal unity, deliberately putting three capable people together; if each acted alone, regardless of their abilities, they’d still face further challenges to remain.
On the other hand, if they could display minimal unity, they could focus less on them.
"Alright, I have no objections," Joshua Bailey was convinced.
Dallion Collins looked at Flossie Wright and stated an answer that left no doubt.
The deal with Flossie Wright back then was based on this premise.
"Whatever."
Jude Marsh offered no opinions on this matter.
Flossie Wright had already discussed this with Glenn Hutchinson beforehand, so it passed unanimously without any doubts.
After Glenn Hutchinson finalized the elimination list, the four reconvened to arrange the route and group members on the selected map. Occasionally, there were differing opinions, but they were resolved in a peaceful manner through voting.
It wasn’t until three in the afternoon that they completely finalized the group list.
As Flossie Wright was already hungry, she left the task of announcing the elimination list to Joshua Bailey and headed to the mess hall to find something to eat.
Flossie Wright didn’t want to waste the cooks’ time, so she just grabbed two leftover Steamed Buns and headed to the Training Ground, where she unexpectedly encountered chaos.
"I’m not convinced!"
"My scores surpassed theirs by a long shot, so why did those who did worse pass?!"
"Whatever method you used, I don’t care; you must give us an explanation!"
Several people who were eliminated rushed up to Joshua Bailey, each one accusing him angrily as though their elimination was utterly unjust.
Joshua Bailey’s face was covered with saliva spray, his complexion turning notably dark.
Flossie Wright frowned, heading straight toward that direction.
Meanwhile, she took out the whistle from her pocket.
"Beep—beep—beep—"
Flossie Wright blew the whistle repeatedly, its piercing sound overshadowing the clamorous voices.
And so, the angry words they were about to utter were forcefully suppressed.
After the third blow, Flossie Wright stood before them.
Instantly, the attention that was on Joshua Bailey shifted entirely to Flossie Wright.
Joshua Bailey, on the verge of an outburst, suppressed his anger upon seeing Flossie Wright.
Damn it, almost lost my cool.
"Attention—!"
Flossie Wright coldly issued the command.
Despite their anger, those selected to be here were first and foremost qualified soldiers. Upon hearing the command, each person, though reluctant, quickly assembled in line, standing straight as arrows.
"At ease." Flossie Wright issued another command.
Everyone relaxed in unison, even their timing was synchronized.
"Any objections to the elimination list?!" Flossie Wright slowly asked, enunciating each word with clear coldness and a heavy sense of intimidation.
"Sir! Yes, sir!"
They shouted in unison.
Flossie Wright’s gaze turned a bit cold, yet her lips curled into a cold smile, "No rush, we’ll take it one by one."
