They didn’t understand why Nathan Foster suddenly changed the training location, but none of them dared to question it directly. All they could do was suppress their confusion, then head toward the beach.
The sea was as blue as the sky, and the winter sun, while less intense, still had the power to sear the skin. The sea breeze tore through the air, shrieking past them like a thousand buildings collapsing.
The ebb and flow of the tidal water washed away lingering footprints, only for a group of soldiers in camouflage fatigues running along the beach to leave behind a new set of disordered tracks.
When Nathan Foster led the new recruits to the beach, the first thing they saw was a group of shirtless soldiers basking in the sun. All of them were laying down, some even asleep, their exposed skin rendered a masculine bronze by the sun. They blended in with the sandy beach, and when occasionally waves washed ashore, the water would stop just inches from their feet, then gently retreat back into the sea.
"Absolutely cool!"
Some of the girl soldiers in the new recruits huddled together, expressing their astonishment. Their eyes were filled with surprise and admiration.
Those men seemed to be doing anti-sunburn training.
Despite being winter, the sun was still quite harsh, so they clearly understood the necessity of daily anti-sunburn training.
However, their training had never been as brutal as this - stripping down and lying on the beach like fish being roasted alive, was a level of cruelty in its own right.
Faintly hearing the sounds made by the female soldiers, Nathan Foster gave them a cold glare, instantly intimidating them into silence.
With a sudden barked order, all the new soldiers’ attention was refocused. They unconsciously began to form orderly lines, without hesitating or stopping to think.
Once the recruits were lined up, Foster moved around them before finally standing in the middle, shouting at the two squadrons, "Those who were too scared to fall– step forward!"
His voice was loud enough to pierce the heavens.
The soldiers picked out of the line felt something clench in their chests. Those standing closest to each other exchanged anxious looks, and with great reluctance, they stepped out of the line as if they were really facing death.
They knew Foster, their instructor, would not let them off easily!
They were now filled with regret. If they had known this would happen, no matter how painful, they would have chosen to fall!
From the back of the line, Becca Reyes asked Flossie Wright, "What do you think Foster, our instructor, will do to punish them?"
Flossie glanced sideways, "Train."
The sandy beach is softer than hard ground. Falling here wouldn’t hurt as much. Nathan Foster probably intended for them to practice here from the start and was just testing them earlier.
Now, the ones who chickened out could serve as a warning to the others.
Becca Reyes, somewhat speechless, withdrew her gaze. Of course, she knew they had to train. If they couldn’t overcome their mental barrier, then they didn’t need to continue training.
So, the question was, how would Foster train them.
"Everyone else, rest in place!" Finally, when he had stared at those few new soldiers until they were shivering, Foster roared at the rest, then turned his fierce gaze on the unfortunate soldiers, "You seven, come with me!"
