The next day.
As dawn broke, the few who had fallen asleep on the beach started to wake up one after another.
Rowdy Brightwill was the earliest to rise.
By the time he’d wandered through the woods and found something that could serve as breakfast, their previously built campsite seemed empty because everyone was already up.
He could see a few figures nearby, but after looking carefully, he could not spot Flossie Wright.
Jessie Grain walked past, greeting him in passing.
"Morning," Rowdy Brightwill nodded, paused for a moment, and then immediately asked, "Where’s Flossie?"
"She," Jessie Grain chuckled, "got up and left with Belinda Nichols, said they were having a race."
Rowdy Brightwill looked puzzled.
"Yeah," Jessie Grain replied, then explained, "This island isn’t very large, so the two of them are racing to see who swims around it first."
Rowdy Brightwill was instantly speechless.
Seriously—
Finally done with training, and instead of resting well, they decided to go swimming first thing in the morning?
"She’s feeling better, she definitely can’t sit still." Jessie Grain could really understand.
Just thinking about Flossie Wright’s situation made sense.
After getting hurt, there wasn’t much training she could do and she could only boringly recover. For someone like her who trains year-round, suddenly having nothing to do can be painfully dull. After that, with a continuous month-long survival training, the toll taken on mind and body was immense. But with Flossie’s resilience, a day would be enough to recover.
As for swimming and racing with someone, it’s just a way for her to relax, to warm up.
Rowdy Brightwill nodded, sighing to himself helplessly.
Didn’t think too much about it.
The island isn’t big, and at the speed of Flossie Wright and Belinda Nichols, they could be back in less than two hours, but since it was supposed to be a race, neither seemed in much of a hurry, slowing down quite a bit.
By the time they got back, three hours had passed.
By then, everyone else had finished breakfast and had scattered off, leaving only Rowdy Brightwill and Sandy Cruz waiting.
During the wait, they took the opportunity to warm up breakfast for them.
The so-called breakfast was, of course, not rice or noodles but consisted of two pieces of compressed biscuits that Joshua Bailey had brought, a bottle of water, and two fish that were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
The two didn’t fuss about it and ate tranquilly.
"Vice Adjutant Bailey said to gather at noon."
After handing over the food to them, Rowdy Brightwill said while putting out the fire.
"Where?" Flossie took a sip of water, asking unhurriedly.
"The finish line." After a pause, Rowdy Brightwill continued, "People have been coming back one after another, by the latest at four in the afternoon, everyone should be there."
Flossie responded nonchalantly.
With such a long period of wilderness selection, those who were relatively lacking had mostly been eliminated in the earlier stages. The further it went, the stronger the remaining people became, and the experiences accumulated from earlier stages made them adept by now.
Arriving a bit earlier was quite normal.
"There’s one more thing."
Pausing briefly, Rowdy Brightwill looked at Flossie and Belinda, his expression subtly changing.
The two glanced at him.
"A friendly hint from Vice Adjutant Bailey," after his eyes roamed around for a moment, Rowdy Brightwill spoke in a lowered voice, "Starting tomorrow, we get a three-day break."
