He indeed felt inferior to Glenn Hutchinson, but compared to this batch of new recruits, he was absolutely confident he would stay.
Why was he considered unqualified?!
Glenn Hutchinson gave him a once-over, his deep gaze held an unusual expression, he asked seriously, "Why was it that they all died, and you did not?"
His tone was very steady and sombre.
But beneath its calm exterior, there was a storm brewing hard to predict.
Seemingly having realized something, the soldier’s face abruptly changed, but he remained defiant, "I survived because I have skills, is that wrong?!"
"Your mission failed."
Glenn Hutchinson added calmly, a warning lurking in his gaze, pointing out what his main focus should be.
Their mission was not merely survival, but to defend their territory.
In reality, Glenn Hutchinson alone managed to wipe them all out soundlessly on the last day, notifying a small team at the last moment to capture the territory that they should have defended. The soldier who had been hiding all along was a fish in the net. He didn’t even fire his gun... it wasn’t worth his attention.
"You clearly said..."
The soldier became furious, but before he could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by Glenn Hutchinson.
"I did say that surviving to the end of the exercise qualifies you," Glenn Hutchinson paused slightly, then turned the tables with his next words, his tone heavy, "But, those who only know how to hide on the battlefield, who disregard teammates for their own benefit, they are not worthy of being my soldiers!"
Not worthy of being my soldiers!
That single statement not only jolted the soldier, but it also stirred up waves of shock in everyone else’s hearts.
Inexplicably, a sense of pride stirred in their chests.
Without a certain proposition of power, no one would dare to make such a statement.
In their eyes, Glenn Hutchinson had always been a mysterious and formidable figure, so much so that even the brigadier of the base didn’t hold the same position in their hearts. When Glenn made such a statement, they felt it was only natural.
He had the luxury to choose the soldiers he wanted!
"I," the soldier’s face grew uglier, he struggled to argue, "But it was just a drill."
In an instant, Glenn Hutchinson’s gaze turned icy cold, but he showed no desire to engage in any further argument with the soldier.
"Based on your performance in the drill, it is enough to decide your fate."
With an icy glance at him, Glenn Hutchinson was ready to leave after he finished speaking.
"Fuck! Stop pretending. If you are biased against me, just say it. What’s so great about your forces?!"
Seeing Glenn Hutchinson turning to leave, the soldier couldn’t contain his anger and started yelling, pointing at the back of Glenn’s head, his rage appearing as fierce as an enraged tiger.
However, at a flash, the crowd heard the sound of a gun being cocked. By the time they reacted, a gun was already pointing at the man’s temple.
In shock, the other people’s gaze drifted away and they saw a man dressed in desert camouflage emerging from nowhere. He wore a neat and trim uniform that carried a rebellious air. His camo cowboy hat was tilted at a rakish angle, reminiscent of a wild-west cowboy. Yet, this playful semblance was overshadowed by his militant camo attire.
The only thing that seemed to catch people’s liking was his human-like face.
Under the dim light, his face was somewhat clear. He seemed to have a mixed-race appearance with dusky fair skin and chiselled features. A smile played around his upturned, peach-blossom eyes. His gaze was captivating and flirtatious. He surely would have been a heart-throb amongst women, had his face not been in the forces.
Leaning slightly towards the soldier he was pointing the gun at, the man’s eyes held a subtle threat, "Kid, watch your manners when you’re talking to our Captain."
The soldier could only feel an unusual pressure from his side. He was so nervous that he couldn’t move. But after a few seconds of silence, realizing that the other party wouldn’t really shoot, he finally calmed down.
However, as soon as he met the man’s warning gaze, his heart raced again.
The other party was just looking at you, but his eyes hid endless intent to kill. The consolidated warning was like a snake climbing up to his heart, and the seriousness beneath his light façade made you subconsciously feel that he would seriously pull the trigger and end your life.
Without realizing it, the soldier’s back was already cold, and he was sweating nervously.
The crowd, who had been watching, was mostly frightened by the man who emerged from nowhere. They did not know how to react for a while.
Damn, that’s a gun!
A loaded gun!
What if it accidentally fires?!
This, this... this is too fucking outrageous, right?!
"Ah, is this one of Captain Hutchinson’s soldiers?"
Becca Reyes nudged Flossie Wright softly, asking in a low voice.
Looking at the man with the gun, Flossie Wright had a fleeting moment of dissatisfaction, but soon a rare smile spread across her face.
This guy...
Is still as discordant as ever.
She gave Becca Reyes a glance and, surprisingly, Flossie responded to her.
And at that same time, Glenn Hutchinson hesitated in his footsteps. His cold gaze swept over Willie Ash’s face, filled with sympathy, and then fell onto the man. His pause was brief, then he spoke nonchalantly, "Take him out."
