Keeping her gaze down, Flossie Wright didn’t speak, but instead just set the Red Envelope beside her pillow. Lifting her comforter, she went straight to bed.

During New Year’s at the Base, many willingly stayed up all night, keeping the atmosphere lively.
A group of people could spend the whole night having fun, just armed with a deck of cards.
The folks in the cooking class stayed up until dawn. As soon as the firecrackers began to sound, they sprang into action in the kitchens.
Of course, Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes were among them.
However, when Flossie Wright tried to step into the kitchen, Little Yan blocked her way.
"Doing what?"
Leaning naturally against the doorframe, Flossie Wright arched an eyebrow at the grinning Little Yan.
"Where did you vanish off to yesterday? Not very loyal, are you?"
Little Yan took a step to the side, once again blocking her path.
"Extra training, then bed," Flossie Wright said straightforwardly.
"Heh, yesterday was New Year’s though," Little Yan stared at her incredulously, itching to poke her in the head, "you were the only person absent from our cooking class group."
"Um," Flossie Wright thought for a moment, put her hand on his shoulder, and said sincerely, "Sorry."
Little Yan suddenly choked up and conceded defeat.
Meanwhile, from inside the bustling kitchen, a rough voice suddenly called out, "Stop blocking the door, come in and have dumplings. We saved some for you last night."
At that, Little Yan obediently stepped aside.
Just as Flossie Wright was about to enter, she saw a figure moving past her, trailing a cool breeze.
It was Becca Reyes.
With a determined look, Becca went in, not once glancing at her.
Taking a pause, Flossie Wright gathered herself and then entered the door.
She had not eaten anything since dinner the previous evening. Due to exhaustion, she merely wished to rest last night, but woke up this morning feeling properly famished.
The sky outside was still very dark.
Even with the lights on in the kitchen, visibility was limited.
Yet, as soon as Flossie Wright entered, she spotted the steaming dumplings and the small stool placed next to them.
"Touched, aren’t you? We saved these just for you."
Little Yan sidled up to Flossie Wright, his voice tinted with an inexplicable melancholy.
Their cooking class was already short-staffed. The flour and meat had been snatched up by those energetic soldiers last night. By the time it was their turn, the remaining ingredients were depressingly scarce.
So, these dumplings were their hard-fought treasures, saved from being eaten during the New Year’s Eve vigil. If it weren’t for one of their own - Flossie Wright, they would’ve likely been snapped up long ago.
Flossie Wright obediently echoed, turning to grab a plate and have her dumplings.
Meanwhile, Little Yan stood still, blinking in surprise.
What... what’s happening? Had Flossie Wright changed her ways on this New Year’s Day?
However, being overly surprised, he failed to catch Flossie Wright’s perfunctory tone, and ended up being bewildered for nothing.
She took a seat in the corner, and just as Flossie Wright picked up her chopsticks, she felt a few probing glances.
She looked up, and those glances quickly vanished.
She had no idea what they were up to.
Curling the corner of her lips, Flossie Wright picked up a dumpling from the very edge and took a bite.
She’d barely bitten into it when she realized the reason for those testing glances.
An empty bullet shell.
She had just bitten a small portion, revealing what was hidden within.
It was an empty bullet shell.
