Evening, eight o’clock.
Just awoken from sleep, Flossie Wright heard a knocking at the door.
Knock, knock, knock.
Methodical.
Two minutes later.
Flossie Wright opened the door, switched into her tactical gear, neat and tidy, though her hair was slightly messy, and her eyes were bleary.
Outside, Rowdy Brightwill stood there.
He was one meter eighty, about half a head taller than Flossie Wright, his tall figure blocking the corridor lights.
"What’s up?"
Still sleepy, Flossie Wright looked at him with a somewhat lazy voice.
"The Captain wants you."
Rowdy Brightwill’s lips curled into a smile, his eyes warm with mirth, softening his expression.
Startled, Flossie Wright frowned and asked, "That matter?"
Nodding, Rowdy Brightwill understood her meaning.
What else could it be apart from that issue?
"How is his attitude?"
Speaking with a frown, Flossie Wright began to walk outside, raising her hand to close the door.
However, Rowdy Brightwill extended his hand in front, propping the door open and preventing her from closing it.
Stopping in her tracks, Flossie Wright frowned, not yet catching on when she saw Rowdy Brightwill bend down, take a large bag from beside him, and hand it straight to her.
"What’s this?"
Puzzled, Flossie Wright took the bag, casually opening it to discover it was filled with local specialties.
Roast duck, preserved fruit, fu ling cakes, duck pears, large peaches...
Just at a glance, she saw several varieties.
Quite heavy.
Flossie Wright was a bit taken aback.
"Local specialties." Rowdy Brightwill smiled, looking quite handsome, his voice gentle, "I promised to get them for you."
"Sent by your family?"
With a twitch of her eyebrow, Flossie Wright asked, holding the big bag.
"Yeah, they send stuff over from time to time," Rowdy Brightwill nodded, then added, "Um, and also from Auntie Chai, for you to have."
As he spoke, he stared intently at Flossie Wright, his palms sweating lightly, vaguely nervous.
Worried she would refuse.
Weighing the contents in her hand, Flossie Wright estimated it to be around twenty pounds.
With that, she turned and entered her room, placing the items on the table.
There were no lights on inside, but with the corridor lights, she could probably see clearly enough.
Soon after, Flossie Wright came out again.
"Right," seeing her, Rowdy Brightwill recalled her previous question, "This time you can rest easy. The Captain found a solution; he’s in a better mood now."
She shrugged her shoulders in a casual acknowledgment.
Following Rowdy Brightwill to the door, Flossie Wright could already feel the oppressive atmosphere inside.
There were seven people standing there.
Bard Walker, the Brigadier, Austin Shepherd, Drake Easton, Chen Lianchang from the allied forces.
They were all there.
The other two looked very familiar, probably from the allied forces as well.
All big, strong men in neat, proper military uniforms, standing as unsheathed swords, adding an indescribable pressure to the entire office.
"You’re here?"
Austin Shepherd had been aware of their arrival, but he was the first to greet with a calm demeanor. Apart from the initial surprise upon receiving the message, Austin Shepherd remained composed, a stark contrast to the irascible Nathan Foster.
In an instant, several assessing eyes swept over her.
The pressure was considerable.
"Report! Flossie Wright has arrived!"
At the door, Rowdy Brightwill stood erect, saluting them properly.
