After taking a few glimpses at Jocelyn Carrington’s hasty departure, Flossie Wright started to focus on this final checkpoint. It was supposed to test shooting skills. Instead, one could also choose tree climbing. However, this heavy downpour would make it hard for average people to aim their guns, let alone at fluctuating targets.
She could do it, but....
As she mulled over her decision, she suddenly noticed a female soldier casting a gaze at her, which caused her to instinctively look back.
Although the female soldier seemed a bit reluctant to make eye contact, she still managed to muster a friendly smile. "If you don’t want to climb the tree, I can help you get it," she offered.
"No need." Flossie glanced at her gun, but she put it away naturally and gave the soldier some advice, "Just abandon it if you can’t climb up."
Heaven’s rain was pouring. Without the right skills, one could easily have an accident in the tree.
"What about you?" The soldier was stunned, watching Flossie leave directly through the path.
"I give up."
Without turning her head, Flossie waved to the soldier as an informal farewell.
On the beach, many teams that had arrived earlier had already gathered together. Flossie arrived just in time, yet the left-behind female soldier had to wait for about half an hour at the original spot before she could return with the inflated balloon, brimming with joyous energy.

The rain hitting her body, Flossie stood in the line and watched the same soldier getting scolded by her own captain. Despite the severe chastisement, the soldier’s face was still glowing with excitement, and her countenance with pride and jubilation, not caring about the scolding she’d just received.
Watching silently for a while, Flossie seemed lost in thought.
"Flossie, don’t worry. You bagged just one less than everyone else. Your score won’t be bad," consoled Janice Wood. She was lighthearted and glowing with a brilliant smile, clearly overjoyed by Flossie’s safe return.
The field survival training resulted in some of their teammates getting ambushed, while some gave up halfway. Of all the trainees, less than one-third safely arrived at the meeting point in the end. But compared to her usual performance, Flossie had done an admirable job.
Flossie vaguely responded, her mind elsewhere.
The forces returned to the base on time. Even though there were a few unexpected incidents along the way, timely rescue prevented severe consequences, marking the successful conclusion of the field survival training.
After a day’s rest, it was time for the fresh recruits’ assessment. The objectives were simple, but the impending goodbye brought an unexpected intensity of emotion.
When it was finally time for everyone to receive their postings, most faces were crestfallen. A gloomy mood pervaded the base. Even the cooking class made a special exception for Flossie and held a farewell ceremony for her.
After parting, it would be hard to meet each other again.
On the last morning, having sworn their oath and donned the rank insignia of private, everyone with their packs was gathered in the large parade ground in batches. Numerous buses waited outside, ready to receive the new recruits according to the allocation on the instructor’s list.
Different vehicles headed for different destinations, and everyone would have a different fate.
However, many had set their eyes on the number one bus.
Because that would take them to the Marine Corps, providing them with a promising future.
But, just as Abram Phillips started to announce the first seat allocation, he stunned all female soldiers.
"Row Three, Group Two. Flossie Wright. No.1 bus!"
