The gun spun in the palm of her hand.
The next moment, Flossie Wright aimed the already-cocked pistol at the sniper, and as the foe lunged towards her with burning rage, she fiercely pulled the trigger.
The deafening sound of the gunshot rang out.
The bullet traveled straight through the sniper’s heart along its trajectory.
Another shot was fired.
Flossie Wright’s gun-hand rose slightly, the previous shot having penetrated the sniper’s forehead.
For certainty, she fired twice, then quickly holstered her pistol.
The sniper, who had been leaping towards her, widened his eyes in disbelief. That look of astonishment had yet to fade from his eyes when his body ceased moving.
In the blink of an eye, he toppled to the ground.
Never to open his eyes again.
A sniper’s training is primarily focused on gun technique; this sniper probably relied on brute strength and seldom trained himself in close combat.
From the beginning, Flossie Wright had no intention of engaging in close-quarters combat to decide the winner.
After seeing him, she was even more certain of this conviction.
With his bulky muscles, even with Flossie’s excellent knife technique, she couldn’t have stabbed him fatally within a few slashes.
A gun that can send bullets flying to various parts of a human body is the simplest and most straightforward way to cause harm.
After throwing him a cursory glance, Flossie Wright quickly averted her gaze, picked up the sniper rifle from the ground, and turned to walk towards the battlefield where Jessie Grain was.
After several preliminary skirmishes, they had already discovered the positions of two snipers, and having agreed to tackle them separately, they naturally knew each other’s locations.
When Flossie was about ten meters away, and her vision was obscured by the bushes, a burst of gunshots was heard.
"Bang—Bang—Bang—Bang—Bang—Bang—"
Six shots in rapid succession.
Afterward, there was no more sound from that direction.
Flossie Wright hastened her steps and saw two figures.
The male sniper had fallen, riddled with bullets, lying on his back with wide-open eyes.
Jessie Grain knelt on the ground, her pistol cast aside, and her right hand, which had held the gun, pressed against a wound on her left shoulder.
She was wearing a camouflage combat uniform, assembled from dark hues, but even from a few meters away, Flossie could see the bloodstains on her body.
The fabric on her left shoulder was torn, the blood soaking through much of it, a sight too ghastly to bear.
Her entire body was smeared with blood, suffering numerous wounds.
At the sound of footsteps, Jessie Grain tensely turned her head, and upon clearly seeing Flossie Wright, the wariness in her eyes instantly vanished, replaced by a faint smile.
"Get bandaged."
Walking over to her, Flossie Wright slowly squatted down and casually lifted the sniper rifle she had picked up.
The fight was still ongoing, and their operation had not yet ended.
Stubbornly grasping the sniper rifle beside her, Jessie Grain took a deep breath and said with a smile, "I’m fine."
Kneeling with her aim set, Flossie Wright heard her, glanced over, and replied nonchalantly, "I’m better."
Staring blankly, Jessie Grain found herself at a loss for words.
She knew Flossie Wright wasn’t trying to compete to see who was better, but the domineering tone that had left Jessie Grain speechless was somewhat amusing to her.
It was Flossie Wright’s style.
After a moment of thought, Jessie Grain didn’t insist any further, and letting go of her sniper rifle, she slumped wearily to the ground.
Once she relaxed, a wave of pain washed over her, causing Jessie Grain to wince in agony.
It had been a long time since she had sustained such injuries!
With a wry smile, Jessie Grain took out the first aid kit and, after biting down on a few painkillers, she tore open her clothes to treat the wounds she could manage herself.
As the pain hit her in waves, Jessie Grain couldn’t help but shift her thoughts to distract herself.
Association is a curious thing because, unintentionally, you always end up thinking about many things that you never cared about before.
She couldn’t help but recall, a few months earlier, when Austin Shepherd had taught them first aid knowledge, and some people had complained about the excessive amount of material, as memorizing it during intense training was overburdening.
Now, wasn’t it being put to use?
When Jessie Grain first joined the Forces, she had doubted many things, but after a few occasions, she realized that the things they thought they would never need could end up saving your life in critical moments.
Because, you never know what kind of crises you might encounter in the rest of your life.
No one can predict what happens in a lifetime.
She began to believe that what the Forces taught you might not be very useful after leaving, but while you were there, it truly was beneficial.
Jessie Grain’s bandaging took a considerable amount of time.
Thus, she was only halfway done when Flossie Wright had already finished taking care of each adversary.
If it hadn’t been for Edward Milton repeatedly reminding her through the channel, Flossie Wright might have given each enemy a bullet to the head.
In the end, she left three hostages alive, including the escaping drug trafficker.
Flossie Wright’s mission was accomplished perfectly.
And she helped Jessie Grain bandage the remaining wounds.

Yet, not even twenty minutes had passed, the joy of victory still lingering, when a piece of news came crashing down like cold water, sinking every one of them into the depths of despair.
"Captain Peng’s child is gone."
This was the first thing Edward Milton said when he stood before them.
His face, which was stern to begin with, was now even more somber, and it seemed to carry a trace of guilt as well.
"What happened?"
Jessie Grain was the first to express confusion.
Flossie Wright, who was bandaging her, paused slightly in her movements.
"She took the place of that pregnant woman as a hostage; when the drug trafficker was shot, he fell on her," said Edward Milton, pausing before adding, "Her child was unfortunate enough to hit a sharp rock..."
Under the strong impact, the child was lost.
Jessie Grain’s eyes were wide open, showing a flicker of indiscernible emotion.
Flossie Wright slightly lowered her gaze, her emotions hidden from all.
"Also, there’s one more thing." Mildly composing himself, Edward Milton continued, "According to the confessions of the few captives, they had set another trap in a different direction, which was meant for their group; they didn’t expect the drug trafficker who was the bait to die halfway through. So, the higher-ups have decided to combine our two teams to proceed with the next apprehension operation."
