"Oh, alright."
Despite feeling somewhat disappointed that it was not Flossie Wright contacting him, Nigel Ferguson nodded without hesitation.
"Also," Flossie Wright glanced at him, speaking directly, "I’m leaving the cooking class."
Nigel Ferguson froze on the spot.
He watched Flossie Wright select all the carrots, pay, and was about to leave with her shopping cart. It was only then that he seemed to snap back to reality, sprang up from the ground, and ran to Flossie Wright, asking nervously, "Why, why?"
His heart sank suddenly, feeling as if he had lost a piece of himself. He was so nervous when asking the question that he even began to stutter.
"I’ve been transferred."
Flossie Wright calmly pushed the shopping cart and picked the next ingredients based on her instinct.
The truth was, she had come to shop in person today because of Nigel Ferguson.
Even though Nigel Ferguson had helped her a lot during the shopping process merely because she had saved him, these favors still counted. Not to say that she owed him anything, but at least they had established some kind of rapport.
It was not her habit to leave without saying goodbye. She had noticed that Nigel Ferguson seemed to behave differently around her, but that did not affect her usual actions.
After all, she had no intentions of leaving anything for him.
After being shocked for a long time, Nigel Ferguson finally nodded absently.
The following shopping process became a lot quieter. Flossie Wright didn’t initiate any conversations, and Nigel Ferguson was so lost in his own emotions that he couldn’t bring himself to communicate with Flossie Wright.
So, during the more-than-half-an-hour shopping trip, apart from discussing the ingredients, they basically had no other conversations. Even the chatty vegetable vendor ladies noticed that something was off about Nigel Ferguson that day.
"Hey, let me take you home."
Seeing that Flossie Wright had crossed the last item off the shopping list, Nigel Ferguson’s heart gave a lurch. Before Flossie Wright could leave with her shopping cart, he subconsciously stepped forward to push the cart, and said to her with an awkward smile.
Flossie Wright raised her eyelids to look at him.
Upon her utterance of those two simple words, Nigel Ferguson immediately backed down.
The personalities of Flossie Wright and Yvonne Watson were poles apart. When Yvonne Watson said "No need," he could push the cart away with ease, knowing Yvonne Watson wouldn’t be genuinely angry.
However, Flossie Wright was completely different. If she needed something, she would directly pull him over and point at the shopping cart, expecting him to obediently push it back. But if she said "No need", then there was genuinely no need. Nobody could force her into anything.
After hesitating for a moment, Nigel Ferguson tentatively asked: "Then, can I walk you to the door?"
"You decide."
Such a response meant consent.
Nigel Ferguson let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding.
Cautiously walking beside Flossie Wright, pushing the shopping cart, Nigel Ferguson had a lot to say, but couldn’t articulate a single sentence.
From the very beginning, he knew that there could be no future between him and Flossie Wright.
He could confidently chase after Yvonne Watson because he knew they were on the same level—in not terms of their backgrounds, but in terms of their personal thoughts, abilities, characters, and even auras.
Flossie Wright was destined for a life they couldn’t touch.
He didn’t know why, but he had such a premonition.
