"Glenn, I can’t kill you," Flossie Wright said, slightly raising her head, staring at him intently, her words spaced out, devoid of any emotion, "but I can’t forgive you."
The knife she just wielded had veered off course from the heart, brutally stabbing into Glenn’s left shoulder.
The exact place it was stabbed last time.
Blood was pouring out.
She could make Glenn’s body riddled with wounds, but she couldn’t deliver a fatal blow.
She was wearing a military uniform now.
She understood Glenn’s importance.
To this Forces, to the officers above, to the soldiers below, to those people.
The country spent heavily to forge a Glenn Hutchinson.
Yet, there’s only one Glenn Hutchinson.
Even if they might spend more time and money, they wouldn’t forge a second Glenn Hutchinson.
Flossie Wright was very angry, but not irrational.
At the moment, she no longer wanted to be entangled with Glenn Hutchinson.
If she stayed now, she’d pour much energy into it, just as Glenn Hutchinson did; and now, if she stayed again, she and Glenn would spend even more energy.
She was tired.
She didn’t want to constantly dwell on past events.
She hated Glenn’s secrecy.
Contradictory, she didn’t want to hate Glenn.
The conflict between emotion and reason, her usual analytical self, couldn’t untangle the thoughts, nor did she have the energy to repeat the question of forgiveness.
If Glenn wasn’t involved, she could let Glenn help solve it.

But now, with Glenn deeply involved, it was like some kind of joke.
Utterly absurd.
Glenn Hutchinson looked down at her, his deep eyes filled with unforeseeable sadness.
He raised his right hand and grabbed the piece of paper in Flossie’s hand.
With a gentle force, he tore it off.
In front of Flossie, he crumpled it into a ball.
Blood stained the paper, and with his action, it appeared like splattered drops, extremely striking.
"I need you to stay."
Glenn Hutchinson spoke slowly, word by word, as if ringing beside her ear.
The reason he concealed was just to make Flossie stay.
But now, Flossie knew, he wanted her to stay even more.
With wounds, he would soothe.
With pain, he would compensate.
He always knew, Flossie liked him, but this liking wasn’t deep enough, so she could leave at any time.
This matter, she chose to leave, was far more complicated than facing it head-on.
So, she chose to give up on him, to provide herself some stability.
Such a choice did not surprise Glenn Hutchinson.
Flossie Wright was this kind of person.
She could give everything to obtain one thing, at the same time, easily give up many things.
Including him.
He was joyful because of their being together, but she, everything was calm, never truly relied on him, even though she sought his help in many aspects.
"Now, you have the least right to say this."
Flossie Wright coldly looked at him.
"I’ll give you three months off," Glenn Hutchinson stared at her intently, word by word, "Three months, you can go anywhere, after three months, if you still don’t want to stay, meet me once more."
Glenn Hutchinson’s voice was very steady, steady as ever, but in such a situation, it lacked the usual firmness.
