Rowdy Brightwill followed dutifully.
It was the third-floor room again.
After arriving at the Marine Corps, Flossie Wright had been to the hospital more times than she could count, even more often than visiting the infirmary.
Stopping at the door of the ward, Flossie Wright was just about to knock when she caught sight of Rowdy Brightwill beside her staring intently at her, and couldn’t help but raise her eyebrows, "You want to knock?"
"No, no, no," Rowdy Brightwill hastily shook his head, "I’m just following."
Seeing him so nervous was rare, Flossie Wright chuckled softly, tapping his chest with the back of her hand as she looked at him sideways, "Hold your head up, puff out your chest, show some spirit."
Feeling rather despised, Rowdy Brightwill almost wanted to cry.
This wasn’t nervousness, it was awkwardness.
Lately, Nancy Phillips might have hated him more than anyone could guess. Knowing her stubbornness, she would never reconcile with him. After all, they had been friends, and with Nancy Phillips being seriously injured now, it was only right for him to take the initiative to make amends.
However, when it actually came to knocking on the door, he wasn’t that much of a coward.
He entered the room a step behind Flossie Wright, making himself comfortable.
Nancy Phillips lay in bed with an IV drip, looking somewhat weak, her gaze turning towards them at that moment.
Jessie Grain had arrived earlier and stood beside Nancy Phillips’ bed. Hearing the knock, she shifted her gaze slightly.
Unexpectedly, Franklin Cody was also in the room, though standing some distance from the bed, arms crossed over his chest, his cold gaze sweeping over them head-on.
Rowdy Brightwill had just walked in and barely glanced around when he saw Nancy Phillips, promptly raising his eyebrows, "How’s it going?"
Upon seeing him, Nancy Phillips’ expression froze, then quickly turned colder, deliberately turning her head away.
"The poison’s been dealt with, the fever has subsided, just needs a few days of rest."
Seeing Nancy Phillips’ reaction, Jessie Grain explained to Rowdy Brightwill to avoid any stiff embarrassment.
Rowdy Brightwill nodded and then casually found a spot to put down the things he was carrying.
Then he approached Franklin Cody, standing next to him and quietly exchanged a few words.
They mostly discussed Nancy Phillips’ condition and Flossie Wright’s training situation.
"You’re close with her?"
After a few words, Franklin Cody frowned and asked in a chilly tone.
"Who?" Rowdy Brightwill was briefly puzzled before asking, "Flossie?"
Franklin Cody’s reply was cold.
Not Flossie, then it had to be—
"You mean Nancy Phillips." Rowdy Brightwill’s eyes lifted, suddenly understanding.
Franklin Cody’s response was stiff.
"We used to be quite close," Rowdy Brightwill replied candidly, "Yes, you don’t usually train with us, and you’ve never been an instructor for our class, so you probably don’t know. We were in the same class, knew each other from back then."
"Used to be?" Franklin Cody picked up on the word.
"Yeah." Rowdy Brightwill shrugged, "Old news, better left untouched."
After staring at him for a moment, Franklin Cody frowned deeply, "So why are you visiting her?"
Visiting her was one thing, but why bring so many things, unlike everyone else?
Rowdy Brightwill unexpectedly widened his eyes.
What, coming over to visit and the instructor gets annoyed?
"Is that a problem?" After some thought, Rowdy Brightwill decided to get to the bottom of it.
His expression darkening slightly, Franklin Cody responded icily, "Yes."
"Alright," Rowdy Brightwill eyed him and then smiled cryptically, "then give me a reason."
Without speaking, Franklin Cody stared at him, his expression cooling several degrees.
