Six o’clock.
Both arrived at the dormitory building on time.
"Shit, why are there so many people?"
As they approached, Becca Reyes widened her eyes in surprise at the sight of a row of instructors standing beneath the dormitory building.
Looking up, Flossie Wright’s gaze swept over.
Five men, four women.
A few of them looked familiar.
Austin Shepherd, Nathan Foster, Rowdy Brightwill, Drake Easton, and also Nancy Phillips.
All military officers, their ranks neatly displayed on their shoulders.
Just as she took a second glance, Nathan Foster raised his whistle and blew it forcefully.
"Whistle—whistle—whistle—"
The continuous sound startled the new recruits in the two dormitory buildings.
Having been prepared earlier and with some waiting, the assembly was unusually quick. In just two minutes, everyone stood in neat rows.
This selection had sent away another five people.
Two female soldiers, three male soldiers.
Now, there were only fifteen female soldiers and thirty-one male soldiers left.
Aggravatingly few.
Standing there, they resembled an abandoned troop.
"You have two minutes to hand over all your cell phones," Austin Shepherd said while shaking the timer in his hand, smiling as he spoke. Before finishing, he pressed the button on the timer.
In the center of their formation lay two cardboard boxes.
Suddenly, the group that had just steadied themselves, not yet fully recovered from the surprise, dashed toward the two buildings.
Why didn’t they say earlier!
Cursing inwardly, their feet moved as if propelled by the wind, their speed ever increasing.
The two minutes were up.
Austin Shepherd pressed the timer.
At the same time, everyone’s phones were turned off and thrown into the two cardboard boxes.
"Did everyone rest well?" Austin Shepherd asked, putting away the timer.
"We rested well!"
Immediately, everyone responded in unison, their voices resounding from deep within.
"All right then," Austin Shepherd said, nodding with a smile, "stand at attention for half an hour first."
Everyone’s eyes widened.
Ever since graduating from the new recruits’ company, they seldom had to stand at attention. They were always busy training and nobody cared about attention or drill training since they had already mastered that during their time with the new recruits.
Why stand at attention now?
As they wondered, Nathan Foster suddenly barked authoritatively, "I told you to stand at attention. Didn’t you hear clearly?!"
The shout was deafening.
Subconsciously, confused as they might be, everyone promptly followed the order and began standing at attention solidly.

It was just standing at attention, surely better than being asked to climb cliffs!
When Austin Shepherd mentioned standing at attention, he indeed meant it.
The row of people in front of them seemed to be their new instructors, now standing ramrod straight at the front, silent as if they were wooden stakes.
Even the familiar, approachable, and unpretentious Rowdy Brightwill stood with a stern face, expressionless.
The atmosphere grew tense for a moment.
But then, after an unknown amount of time—
Following the road, three buses slowly approached, and they gradually stopped about ten meters away from the dormitory building.
Subsequently, Nathan Foster and a female military officer picked up their whistles and walked towards that direction.
Caught off guard, the group of new recruits, despite standing at attention, couldn’t help but glance sideways. Their eyeballs seemed to be on the verge of popping out, as if they were all having collective seizures.
