Perhaps from the very beginning, she only intended to take a look around.
To see familiar faces from the previous year, to see what attractions this place might have.
And now, she’s leaving.
Returning to the place where she truly belongs.
This place, Aaron Doom, might not be easy to come to, but if you want to leave, no one will try to stop you.
Thus, Flossie Wright agreed readily and even gave her a nice review.
Ideally, Glenn Hutchinson should have made this decision, but this time, it wasn’t because Flossie Wright didn’t trust Glenn and chose not to tell him; it was because of Nancy Phillips’s special status.
Having Flossie Wright make the decision was already enough.
Flossie Wright was a bit hesitant, as she wasn’t sure if Glenn Hutchinson would get angry over such a matter.
After all, he’s a man who often sweats the small stuff.
However, Glenn Hutchinson just lazily glanced up, "I’m not exactly young anymore."
Flossie Wright gave him a sideways look.
Knowing what Glenn Hutchinson was hinting at, Flossie Wright could only ask, "When are you leaving?"
"I already bought the tickets for tomorrow." Glenn Hutchinson said seriously.
"So soon?" Flossie Wright was a little surprised.
The New Year was only days away, and the results for the cadet eliminations would be announced tomorrow. Flossie thought the earliest would be the day after.
Glenn Hutchinson replied calmly, "The leave was just approved."
The reason he came to find Flossie so late was because he had been lobbying at the squadron all night.
He went there with good food and drink.
Both their leaves had already exceeded the limit, but given the special circumstances, and Glenn’s accumulated leave, it was not a problem to get a few days off; however, for them both to take leave simultaneously...
It indeed required a bit of persuasion.
"How many days?" Flossie raised an eyebrow.
"Seven days." Glenn Hutchinson said casually.
Now, Flossie’s surprise was evident, and she couldn’t help asking, "Both captains got seven days?"
"What else?" Glenn Hutchinson replied, a subtle smile playing at the corner of his mouth.
"You really managed it." Flossie looked at him with meaningful eyes.
Both of them were captains, and with the New Year approaching, they weren’t short of things to do. At the very least, organizing the New Year’s party would keep them busy, yet Glenn Hutchinson still managed to secure them each seven days off...
The squadron must be livid.
With both in charge absent, all the trivial matters would fall on others. How would they have a peaceful New Year like that?!
"Of course." Glenn Hutchinson narrowed his eyes, a hint of deeper meaning in his words.
Flossie Wright looked at him speechlessly.
"Let’s go." Glenn Hutchinson extended his hand to her.
With a faint response, Flossie Wright also reached out her hand to him, and then left with him.
The next day.
Snow fell heavily, with large flakes resembling goose feathers scattering all night.
The little remnants of snow that had just melted a few days ago had somehow accumulated again, covering the entire Base in a blanket of white. The whole scene was wrapped in silver, almost devoid of any other color as far as the eye could see.
Having had a bit of a restless night, Flossie Wright woke up later than usual.
When she stepped out, neatly dressed, she specifically glanced at her watch.
By this time, the eliminated cadets should be leaving.
As she stepped outside, the biting cold wind met her face, carrying away most of the warmth from her body. Flossie Wright slightly lifted her eyes, and her gaze was immediately chilled to ice.
Flossie Wright adjusted her hat and then descended the dormitory building, heading straight to the playground.
Almost as soon as she caught sight of the playground, she spotted a bus parked there.
Rows of soldiers, dressed sharply in the three colors representing the sea, air, and land forces, stood in neat lines, quietly boarding the bus.
Flossie Wright simply stood in place, watching their retreating figures from afar.
Hardly had she been standing a moment when a figure detached from the ranks and headed straight toward her.
"Congratulations."
Though still vibrant and sharp-looking, Nancy Phillips’s gaze softened with a rare hint of a smile when she saw Flossie Wright.
"The same to you." Watching her, until she came right before her, Flossie Wright finally curved her lips slightly and uttered two words slowly.
"Sarcastic?" Nancy Phillips lifted her eyelids a little, showing no signs of annoyance or anger in her expression.
"Found a good ending."
Pausing for a moment, Flossie Wright added.
The previous night, after Nancy Phillips left, Flossie called Becca Reyes to inquire about the situation.
Apparently, before Nancy Phillips came, she and Franklin Cody had agreed that if she returned early, they would marry.
In this situation, it’s not that Nancy Phillips was eliminated, but she chose to leave herself, so it seems the two are set for good news.
Flossie Wright still recalled when, during Marine Corps training, Franklin Cody had been rather careful around Nancy Phillips, and throughout that period of training, they had some interaction. It seemed like a suitable match.
Nancy Phillips being with Franklin Cody wasn’t a loss.
At the very least, it was better than pining for the forever unlikely Rowdy Brightwill.
"Thanks." Nancy Phillips’s eyes flickered as she said simply, then she asked Flossie Wright, "After returning this time, will you get married?"
"Yes." Flossie nodded slightly.
The cold wind, coming straight at her, made Flossie’s cheeks ache slightly.
"Wedding invitation?" Nancy Phillips raised her eyebrows in a teasing smile, seemingly asking offhandedly.
"Didn’t prepare any." Flossie shrugged.
Wedding invitations and whatnot weren’t her responsibility to prepare.
In fact, even for Becca Reyes’s wedding invitation, she only notified Glenn Hutchinson to have the families organizing the wedding handle it after Becca Reyes reminded her repeatedly.
For everyone else...
She really hadn’t done much preparation.
After all, working in the Forces, who had that much free time?
"Never mind," understanding Flossie’s personality, Nancy Phillips waved it off, "come to Marine Corps next time, my treat."
