Marine Corps.
The rising sun was high in the sky, bathing everything in bright sunshine.
Flossie Wright gracefully slid down from the helicopter with a long rope, once again standing on this land she had not been on for many days.

The rest of the people hadn’t yet returned, and there were very few left on the base, but those standing guard were as unyielding as a rooted tree under the morning sun, not showing the slightest wavering. The military personnel passing by marched in perfect rhythm, showing no slackness either.
Long hours of travel and combat made Flossie feel a little drowsy. She rubbed her forehead, and according to Austin Shepherd’s instructions, headed straight for the office building in the corps.
She was not familiar with this place, but before boarding the helicopter, Austin had clearly explained everything to her, and the brigadier’s secretary had been waiting for her under the office building. No matter how sleepy or unfamiliar she was, she couldn’t possibly follow the wrong person.
The secretary had inspected Flossie Wright from head to toe for quite some time, studying her uniform that bore the wear of storms and rain, even the camouflage paint on her face that she had not washed off, making his brow furrow subconsciously and asked hesitantly, "You, came straight here?"
While being scrutinized, Flossie stood with her arms folded by her side, examining the secretary in front of her who looked like a scholarly gentleman. After his question, a hint of amusement flashed in Flossie’s eyes. She glanced in the direction where the helicopter had left, implying something very obvious to him.
She was brought here directly by the helicopter, did he expect her to change into clean clothes on the helicopter?
So, the secretary thought about it and seemed to understand, hesitatingly nodded, "Alright, follow me."
Having said that, he turned around and walked upstairs.
All the way, Flossie didn’t say a word. She’d rather save her energy, after all, she was going to see the brigadier later anyway. She had absolutely no interest in asking anything beforehand.
However, her calmness felt strange to the leading secretary. Normally, any new soldier meeting the brigadier should feel at least somewhat nervous, or ask him a few questions. But Flossie, serene and silent, followed him upstairs without a trace of nervousness, as if she was as calm as if going to meet a platoon leader, which shocked the secretary.
However, he was too embarrassed to ask her why she wasn’t inquiring about things...
In his confusion, they finally arrived at the Brigadier’s office.
"Knock. Knock. Knock."
Symbolically knocking three times on the half-open door, the secretary signaled to those inside.
Soon, a steady voice came from inside the door, "Come in."
So, the secretary glanced at Flossie again, sighed quietly with distaste for her attire, and then finally pushed open the office door.
The view suddenly widened. The setting of the entire office was in full view, no different from the other offices Flossie had seen. Therefore, what attracted her most was the person inside.
A man in his forties or fifties was sitting next to the desk. Just by sitting there, he exuded an aura of power that demanded respect, and his stern and steady face wasn’t overly intimidating. His demeanor was much more restrained, with four stars on his shoulder, naturally indicating he was the highest-ranking officer in the corps, the brigadier.
Austin Shepherd stood next to him. The instant the door opened, he made sure his expression was serious, standing straight as a pole. However, when he looked over at Flossie, his eyes lit up with joy. His cheerful gaze was infectious, so much so that Flossie’s eyes softened and the corners of her mouth curved up slightly.
