Perry Reed’s gaze swept over the kettle, his slight obsession with cleanliness making him furrow his brow. But as Daisy Deacon was about to pull back, he simply took the kettle and started to heat it.
He unscrewed the lid and took a sip.
The icy liquor slid down his throat, and after a moment of chill, it turned into a burning sensation.
Perry Reed tossed the kettle back to Daisy Deacon and asked casually, "Where do you plan to go?"
"I don’t know," Daisy replied, gulping down the liquor still in the kettle without replacing the lid. She casually tossed the kettle out the window, stretched lazily, and said offhandedly, "I’ll find a companion first."
Perry Reed withdrew his gaze.
Erina Taylor was gone, Slaughter was disbanded, and Daisy Deacon was leaving too. For Perry Reed, these were just small changes, but that didn’t stop him from helping Daisy have a smoother path ahead.
After working together for so many years, despite the competition, there was some camaraderie between them.
"By the way, are you going to her wedding?" Daisy suddenly asked.
"No," Perry Reed replied with a cold expression.
"What about when she has a baby?"
"..." Perry Reed’s face darkened.
"When the time comes, let’s go together," Daisy said, pulling a wide-brimmed hat onto her head, shadowing her eyes. She gazed slightly out the window, as if making a casual decision, yet her calm voice bore traces of indistinguishable sadness, "I want to be the child’s godmother."
Perry Reed looked at her, neither confirming nor denying.
He was the only one who knew Daisy’s situation.
Not even Flossie Wright knew about Daisy’s pregnancy.
In fact, it was just two hours prior that Perry received the news from Daisy about her pregnancy, asking him if he wanted to be a godfather. But two hours later, he was informed of Andrew’s betrayal.
[He didn’t know if Andrew, at that time, was aware of the child.]
What he did know was that Daisy, during that incident, did not keep the child, and furthermore, could never become pregnant again.
He couldn’t really comprehend how much pain a woman had to erase to recover to this point after such an ordeal, so he didn’t make any comments.
If, if that day really comes, then let’s go together.
After all, the things that should be accepted, shouldn’t be accepted, are ever-lasting.
It wasn’t until a week later that Flossie Wright truly woke up.
The entire hospital’s surgical team had worked throughout the night to remove shards of glass from her body and bandage her external wounds, yet her injuries were so extensive it was hard to imagine. Many wounds were infected and inflamed, leaving her body too weak to withstand large doses of medication.
The doctors were utterly exasperated by the situation.
Fever and defervescence, cycles repeating, Flossie Wright was in a coma, her high fever clouding her consciousness. This cycle continued repeatedly until a week later, the fever finally abated.
When Flossie’s consciousness returned to normal, her first sight upon opening her eyes was Glenn Hutchinson standing beside her bed.
A weary and exhausted Glenn Hutchinson, with a beard that seemed unshaven for some time, had grown somewhat manly. Yet it was a far cry from the handsome image in her memory, though the gentleness in his deep eyes was breathtaking.
Glenn, who had been anxiously waiting, finally saw the clarity in Flossie’s eyes when she awoke, and for the first time, completely calmed his long-held anxious heart.
"Yeah," Flossie responded, feeling a dry pain in her throat and her voice hoarse, so she asked, "How long was I asleep?"
