The intention was to let her fully understand the situation they were in now.
"Go to sleep."
After wiping her hair with a towel, Flossie Wright said to Jessie Grain faintly.
"Okay, I’ll turn off the lights first," Jessie Grain nodded and then said, "It’s so hot tonight; I’m going to take a shower first."
Flossie Wright glanced at her but did not object.
During this period, not to mention eating, even taking a shower was a challenge.
Franklin Cody would drop them into the deep jungles from time to time, and they could not find their way out for a day or two, let alone take a bath.
Therefore, when they were training at Base, unless they were truly too tired to move, they would still spend about ten minutes to shower themselves.
Ella Pemberton’s notification was very timely.
All three realized that she would no longer continue to train them, so when facing Franklin Cody, they were at most showing an expression of "utter dismay," completely giving up that last bit of hope.
Reduced to desperation, they might be reborn.
Once completely deprived of hope, they embraced the subsequent training with a near-death determination.
After several more days of training, on the evening of the 14th, Franklin Cody suddenly announced—
Tomorrow night, Nancy Phillips and Jessie Grain will retake the test.
The news came unexpectedly, and while it didn’t involve Flossie Wright and Jessie Grain seemed prepared, Nancy Phillips was still not confident. The evening of the 14th, she spent five hours revising.
The next day, Jessie Grain called her crazy.
But she did not blame her for anything.
Nancy Phillips had been somewhat anxious during this time, and both Jessie Grain and Flossie Wright had noticed but were unable to help her.
The exam started at ten-thirty in the evening.
Flossie Wright did not need to participate and could have rested. However, Franklin Cody would not let her off the hook. That night he quickly fabricated a reason and ruthlessly threw her into the sea for a ten-kilometer armed swim.
Clearly targeting her, Flossie Wright was speechless and helpless.
By the time Flossie Wright, soaking wet, managed to crawl back, Nancy Phillips and Jessie Grain had already finished their exams.
She had been thinking of resting, but then, even worse news swept through.
"Beep—beep—beep—"
Just as she reached the bottom of the Dormitory building, she heard the urgent whistle, as chilling as one beckoning the soul.
Rubbing her forehead, Flossie Wright splashed her face with water using her wet sleeve, then hastened her steps to go there.
Guided by the whistle to the Assembly Point, Nancy Phillips and Jessie Grain were already waiting.
"Hurry up, don’t waste my time!"
Glancing coldly in their direction, Franklin Cody suddenly raised his voice and bellowed at her.
The sound was deafening; even at a distance, one could feel his annoyance. Flossie Wright had no choice but to run over.
She stood at attention steadily next to Jessie Grain.
"The second phase of the training has ended as of this moment!" Franklin Cody put down the whistle, his gaze sweeping across them, "The second assessment will commence at zero hundred hours!"
The three maintained their silence.
Flossie Wright slightly lifted her gaze, staring straight ahead, her eyes slowly shifting onto Franklin Cody.
It wasn’t surprising.
The first phase of the training should have included an assessment, but it was delayed by their Mission. Afterwards, they only participated in the competition, but actual combat assessments were apparently more significant for them.
As for the second phase, if there were no assessments, that would have been strange.
"Three days, fully armed wilderness survival, solitary movement, with Sniper teams ambushing en route. You must do everything in your power, apply any knowledge you’ve learned, to escape the pre-arranged Sniper teams and come back ’alive’."
The three still said nothing, but their expressions all turned quite grave.
Without thinking, they all knew this assessment would leave them half-dead yet again.
Last time during the three-day wilderness survival, they had acted as a team, and the attackers en route were not Snipers but rather openly firing, making it easier to spot the targets.
But when they finally encountered hidden Snipers, they were truly without recourse.
Unaware and unprepared, they were effective targets, lucky to have not died.
And with Sniper teams ambushed throughout the journey?
The thought alone was headache-inducing!
It was a deliberate move to force them to choose alternative Roads and bypass the Sniper team ambushes. Yet, deep in the Jungle, detouring was obviously not a wise move. They could get killed just as likely – it wasn’t impossible.
"That’s the rule, do you understand?!"
Franklin Cody’s voice rose, resolute and forceful, each word piercing their ears.
"We understand!"
The three shouted in unison.
Their eyes fiercely met Franklin Cody’s gaze, which swept across them, pausing on the exhausted look of Nancy Phillips, who could barely keep her eyes open. He frowned slightly, then brought his gaze back.
"Go back and pack, you’re only allowed to bring a compass, a Sniper rifle, a Dagger, and one magazine. Assemble here at 11:50!"
Immediately, the three responded collectively.
After being dismissed, they looked at their military watches to see it was already 11:41.
The three of them cursed inwardly right away.
Flossie Wright, soaked through, had no time to change into clean clothes and just grabbed her belongings and left, even taking off her military watch that could tell time.
In a rush, they grabbed their weapons and hurriedly made their way to the Assembly Point.
It was exactly 11:50.
As the time arrived, they stood straight, neatly lined up in a row.
At the same time—
There was already a helicopter waiting overhead, and even the ladder had been thrown down from the sky.
"Very good."
Checking the time, Franklin Cody looked at them and finally squeezed out two words of satisfaction.
After sizing them up, Franklin Cody waved his hand, indicating that they could climb onto the helicopter.
As soon as he finished speaking, the fully equipped trio were already adeptly in action.
Well-trained, they quickly climbed onto the helicopter.
Just onboard, they were all assigned parachutes for their eventual descent.
"Good luck!"
Jessie Grain stretched out her hand, her curved eyes filled with laughter.
"Good luck."
Nancy Phillips’s hand covered the back of hers.
"..." Flossie Wright was reluctant to partake in such rituals but, upon lifting her eyes, saw the gaze of the other two sweeping over her. She twitched the corners of her mouth, considered for a moment, and finally raised her hand to cover theirs, her tone cool but affirmative, "Good luck."
"One, two, three, good luck!"
