However, before Flossie Wright left, she intentionally irritated them by casually tossing all the seized guns into the crowd, then unabashedly bid them farewell.
She waved, played with the flashlight in her hand, and then swaggered off.
"God damn it..."
As they watched her retreating figure, a flood of curses burst forth. These well-trained spectres seethed with fury at her provoking behavior, but there was nothing they could do about it — not even the chance for a fight as an excuse.
She’s a woman!
Their domineering approach wouldn’t work!
By the time she got back to the dormitory, lights-out time had long passed. The dormitory was pitch black, with the faint sounds of snoring echoing throughout.
However, as soon as Flossie Wright approached her own bed, she noticed a person huddled there.
The top bunk was empty.
The covers were almost entirely draped over Becca Reyes. As Flossie looked closer, Becca’s head, which was curled up in the quilt, was suddenly lifted. Her eyes that were opened wide appeared like they had sunk into the dark ocean, reflecting splintered glimmers of light.
"Come sleep with me."
Becca made an abrupt grin towards Flossie, yet her smile looked more pained than a cry.
After a slight hesitation, Flossie started to move towards Becca’s bunk. But an outstretched hand suddenly tightened its grip on her shoulder with a confrontational stance.
Flossie raised her eyebrows and turned her body aside.
"Come sleep with me."
Within the pitch-black room, Becca’s gloomy and sorrowful eyes were fixed on her, her stubborn gaze seeming to cling on to Flossie insistingly.
Flossie brushed off her hand and said indifferently: "Not used to it."
Right from her childhood, she had always been independent. She hasn’t even slept with her mother after she became sensible. As a mercenary, even though she had to share a makeshift bed on the ground with a bunch of rugged men, they dared not approach her.
Having someone sleep nearby would greatly reduce her alertness, which was a bad feeling for her.
Especially, the bunks in the forces were so narrow. Two people squeezed together...
The mere thought of it made her shudder.
"Just for tonight." Becca was resolute and persistent without any intention of backing down.
Turning towards Becca, Flossie sized her up carefully for a moment. Her face was as pale as paper, and her eyes were dim. The corners of her eyes and eyebrows seemingly read: "I’m in great sorrow."
Flossie couldn’t figure out what had happened to Becca. But after all, she wasn’t completely heartless. After a while, she propped herself up on the edge of the bed and jumped up elegantly.
However, as soon as she lay down on the side of the bed, Becca’s entire body crashed onto her and they ended up extremely close.
"Move a little further away." Flossie furrowed her brows in distaste, but didn’t really push Becca away.
Without any hesitation, Becca lay beside her, but her gaze held profound implications as she asked in a tone that mirrored a chitchat between besties, "Flossie, have you ever been in love?"
As expected, something was off.
Flossie narrowed her eyes slightly and replied flatly, "No."
There was no reason for Flossie to avoid such questions. In her world, survival was the priority; love was simply a frill. There was no problem if she accidentally hit it off with someone, but settling for interests was more like her style. Putting love in a prominent position...
Giving away one’s weaknesses was obviously a foolish act.
In her world, she had seen all kinds of people with ulterior motives trying to get close. Seeing them made her irritated; how could she even possibly...
