After a moment of silence, Rowdy Brightwill gave Flossie a thumbs-up in admiration. In a society like this, it was quite rare for someone like Flossie Wright to not carry a mobile phone.
Handing the still-ringing phone to Flossie, Rowdy Brightwill shrugged his shoulders. "It’s your mom, she’s looking for you."
Lately, Rowdy Brightwill had been serving as a go-between for Flossie and her mother. Even Flossie’s father would contact him directly whenever he needed her, since he had never been able to reach Flossie through her phone — contacting her was beyond difficult.
Thinking of that woman with the gentle voice, Flossie felt a little headache coming on. Still, she couldn’t refuse the call then and there. She casually swiped to answer it and put the phone to her ear, opening softly, "Hello."

"Is that you, Flossie Wright?" Flossie’s mother’s voice sounded a bit surprised and excited. "Have you and Rowdy Brightwill arrived yet?"
"We just landed."
Slightly furrowing her brows, Flossie tried to keep her responses from sounding too perfunctory.
Of course, her concise tone didn’t register with her mother at all. After a pause, she asked tentatively, "Today is New Year’s Eve, would you like to spend it with me?"
Flossie used to not get along well with her family, but even when she had a terrible time at the Wright Family, she never had a good attitude towards her mother. She wasn’t disrespecting or despising her mother; she just didn’t want her awful state to be seen by her. Subconsciously, she rejected every kindness offered to her.
Although her mother had reorganized a new family after divorcing her father, she never had a child. Hence, she always enthusiastically invited Flossie during festivals but never received an affirmative response. To her, each phone call ended with a sense of having cold water poured over her.
Resting her chin in her hand, Flossie considered for a moment. Unexpectedly, she didn’t refuse but agreed in a calm voice, "Okay."
Rowdy Brightwill, who was next to her, opened his eyes in surprise and swept his gaze over Flossie with a puzzled look.
Meanwhile, the driver, who almost missed the red light, slammed on the brakes. His face also could not hide his surprise.
Did Flossie... actually agree?
Actually, the reaction of Rowdy Brightwill and the driver was quite normal. Flossie’s mother, the person on the other end of the phone, was so excited that she nearly lost her words. She asked several times, "Really?" Flossie patiently answered, making her mother sound excitedly tearful.
Rubbing her forehead, Flossie sighed inwardly.
She chose her mother, feeling that the situation at the Wright Family was more chaotic and there were many who did not welcome her. It would be more relaxing to go to her mother’s place. Moreover, she left the Forces just wanting to breathe and did not intend to stir up trouble at the Wright Family.
So, she didn’t expect her simple nod of agreement to excite her mother to such an extent.
After agreeing, Flossie said nothing more. In a few words, she hung up the phone. On the other end, her mother promised to cook good food right now and cheerfully ended the call.
"Are you really going to go to Aunt Chai’s?"
Watching Flossie give the phone back, Rowdy Brightwill stared at her calm face and couldn’t help but confirm again.
From what Rowdy Brightwill understood, Flossie had never agreed to Aunt Chai’s invitation before. No matter how unpleasant her stay at the Wright Family was, she never sought comfort from Aunt Chai. This was the main reason why Aunt Chai had to get information about Flossie from Rowdy Brightwill. Because her daughter rarely talked to her about her thoughts and feelings, every time Aunt Chai mentioned Flossie, she couldn’t help but reconsider whether she was neglecting her duty as a mother.
