Not until deep in the night did Flossie Wright return to the campsite with Glenn Hutchinson.
The atmosphere here was clearly different from before.
They seemed to have sensed the aura of war spreading, the air was filled with a tension laced with the smell of gunpowder, even the usually slightly lazy soldiers were all standing straight, keeping watch outside.
The patrol teams were twice as many as before.
This was preparation for war.
Flossie felt a bit relieved; their time here wouldn’t be long, but she also felt a bit helpless.
What war represented, she had always been very clear about.
She would fight side by side with her comrades, witnessing growth amidst life and death, but would also witness the blood and casualties of her comrades, an unchangeable law in war.

A war where there are no casualties on our side is ideal and beautiful, but it has never been the reality.
As for reality, Flossie had to admit, reality was relatively cruel; bullets wouldn’t divert from you because he is your comrade.
That night, Flossie and Glenn Hutchinson didn’t rest; they sat together studying the map, using their campsite as the red side, assuming they were the blue side, discussing what attack plans to take given their manpower and equipment, what attack routes to follow, and how to weaken the red side’s combat power to achieve final success.
They relied on their strong brains and experience, forcefully attacking the red side dozens of times, then finding the most efficient plan, and switched to the red side to devise strict defense strategies.
This time the red and blue sides were different; their red side had high-quality equipment, only lacking in numbers, so in a head-on collision, they must rely on weapons and equipment to win.
Until dawn, Flossie was forcibly thrown onto the bed by Glenn Hutchinson to rest, while Glenn went to round up the kids who just got up for a meeting.
But after sleeping for two hours, Flossie woke up.
At such times, there’s no mood for a lazy sleep; something hanging in your mind can’t be easily put down.
Going downstairs, she saw Sandy Cruz.
"Busy?" Flossie asked.
"Not busy," Sandy replied quietly as always, "Nothing to do."
"I’m going to find something to eat." Flossie smiled faintly.
"The canteen’s still open," reminded Sandy.
"Okay." Flossie nodded in agreement.
After a brief and calm conversation, they parted ways, and Flossie went straight to the canteen.
Throughout the campsite, except for the tense atmosphere, there was indeed nothing else to do. Not knowing the exact time of the attack, they could only wait here, but apart from waiting and defending, they couldn’t do much more, not even the usual training which had been canceled.
As usual, Flossie first went to the canteen for breakfast, then started running laps to exercise in the small training ground of the campsite.
Although nominally the female team Captain, most matters were managed by Glenn Hutchinson, and as a mere lieutenant here, she had no voice. At most, she managed a few female soldiers, but in reality, two of them had ranks higher than hers.
So Flossie was at best a placeholder, whatever decision making there was, never fell on her shoulders except for following orders.
After a simple warm-up, Flossie also found something to do, following a team around to patrol the hill on the right. When she returned, it was around dusk, and she happened to run into Belinda Nichols at the entrance.
