After thinking it over, this seems to be the only answer.
After a moment of silence, Flossie Wright spoke again, "I want to loosen the bandages."
Glenn Hutchinson nodded.
He didn’t call for a doctor; it was Glenn Hutchinson who removed the bandages. Some wounds that hadn’t fully healed needed to be rebandaged, and he did it all himself.
The seriously infected wounds at the time were severe, but applying medication and bandaging them was not a problem for Glenn Hutchinson.
All of his movements were very cautious, fearing he might hurt Flossie Wright or disturb her emotions.
"I want to be alone for a while."
Though she felt her body could move, Flossie Wright didn’t move at all. She turned her head slightly and said this to Glenn Hutchinson.
Up to this point, she remained so calm.
It was as if she had quietly accepted it.
Glenn Hutchinson furrowed his eyebrows but still nodded.
When things have become a fact, he could not use any words to comfort Flossie Wright, because no matter how elegant and gentle the words, they couldn’t outweigh the bloody reality.
And the pain brought by reality could only be soothed by the person enduring the pain.
No one wants such a reality to happen.
But when reality has been established, any words spoken would seem pale and powerless, even bringing more memories and sorrow.
Flossie Wright will get through it.
Glenn Hutchinson needed to give her some time.
He soon left, closing the door gently as he went out.
Flossie Wright turned over, gazing out the window with open eyes.
The snow had stopped, and the snow outside was piling up, as if the whole world was just a busy accumulation of snow. Flossie Wright couldn’t see any passerby, no sign of life.
At some point, hot tears flowed over the bridge of her nose, then slid along the other eye into her tangled hair.
Flossie Wright snuggled a bit deeper into the covers, nearly covering her hair completely.
Faintly, it seemed that her shoulders were trembling slightly.
That afternoon, Flossie Wright received a call from Becca Reyes.
The phone was brought to her by Glenn Hutchinson.
It was meant to occupy her time, but in most cases, Flossie Wright didn’t use it; over the days, she only glanced at the time occasionally.
She didn’t know when the phone was fully charged.
Even when the call came, she rummaged through the drawer of her bedside cabinet before she found the phone.
"Flossie, I got married."
The moment she answered the call, she heard Becca Reyes’s voice.
Not overly excited, the voice carried more of a steady tone.
"I know." Sitting at the bedside, Flossie Wright replied faintly.
"You heard about Calvin Ramos crashing the wedding?" Becca Reyes’s voice was clearly surprised.
"Calvin Ramos?" Flossie Wright furrowed her brows in confusion.
"Yes." Becca Reyes responded, then with some shyness in her voice, "He showed up when I was getting the marriage certificate."
Flossie Wright slightly furrowed her brow, understanding the sequence of events, then asked, "Married him?"
"Just submitted the report, but it’s basically confirmed." Becca Reyes used a declarative tone, trying to suppress her excitement, yet failed to completely hide her emotions, "His illness is cured, and he passed the military check."
Flossie Wright suddenly realized why she made this call.
"Congratulations." Flossie Wright tugged at the corners of her mouth, sincerely offering her blessings to Becca Reyes.
She didn’t know what exactly happened among Becca Reyes, Calvin Ramos, and Stuart Weston, but at least, the outcome wasn’t disappointing.
