The signal flare was in her hand.
She could launch it at any moment, and in less than half an hour, she would be free from the current trap.
The only problem was—
Should she?
Flossie had advised her, and so had Jocelyn Carrington.
She should give up.
Becca Reyes frowned deeply.
As long as she fired the signal flare, it would all be over.
No more day and night training, no more enduring the extreme pain of the body, no more constant worry about being eliminated...
Her life would become easier afterward.
But, what then?
She would regret it.
She would even resent herself for not holding on a little longer, even just a while longer, as there might be an unexpected turn of events.
Becca Reyes let out a long sigh.
Looking ahead—
Bushes, weeds, deadwood, green leaves, vines, shrubs.
A chaotic mix.
After a moment of thought, Becca Reyes put the signal flare back in her pocket, then, leaning on a stick, she slowly shifted her way outward.
She refused to believe that walking in this direction for a day wouldn’t lead her out!
As it turned out, fortune favored her.
When she was so hungry her stomach growled, she finally passed through the jungle with its crisscrossing trees and arrived at a slightly open piece of land.
The moment she slid down the hillside, Becca Reyes finally breathed a sigh of relief.
For her liberation.
Lying on the ground, Becca Reyes tossed aside the stick in her hand and closed her eyes without any hesitation.
She was tired.
A little rest would do.
Becca Reyes thought so as her consciousness gradually faded, and the soreness in her limbs seemed to disperse.
A gentle voice came to her ears.

Someone took her hand, and a pang of pain shot through her arm.
Becca Reyes furrowed her brow.
Another call reached her ears, as warm as the May sunlight, jolting Becca Reyes awake from her dream.
Her eyes opened wide.
What entered her sight was a face marked with worry and tension, features chiseled, with a gentle expression, as tender as she remembered.
Becca Reyes was stunned for a few seconds.
She subconsciously thought she was dreaming.
The pain that followed in her arm snapped her fully awake.
She wasn’t dreaming.
Everything was real.
Calvin Ramos, her injury, and this world around her.
Closing her eyes to ease their soreness, Becca Reyes squinted as she prepared to sit up from the ground.
"Don’t move."
The gentle voice fell again, followed by a hand on her forehead, cool and soothing.
"You have a fever."
Becca Reyes responded weakly.
"I’ll take care of your wounds first," the voice quickly added.
Becca Reyes didn’t reply this time.
She couldn’t possibly shake off Calvin Ramos and stubbornly leave.
She wouldn’t seek her own death.
Not to mention she lacked the strength to get up and leave, even if she had the energy, with injuries like hers and no one to assist, she wouldn’t last until the seventh day.
She needed help.
Moreover, no matter how much she hated Calvin Ramos, he was still one of her comrades.
