This body had experience writing self-critique papers, and the experiences Flossie Wright had now were all accumulated previously.
She was never associated with the adjective "obedient" since childhood. Plus, starting martial arts at three and having skills without an outlet only left her to bully her peers. If she bullied too hard, she had to write self-criticism at school or home, even dozens at once.
She was a typical naughty child, naturally disobedient. Self-criticism was a little difficult initially, but with practice, she was able to write dozens in a night. Sometimes, when idle, she’d write in advance, saving them for when she messed up.
Of course, she stopped all this as she grew up. Even if she were to poke a hole in the sky, no one would make her write self-critiques. Fortunately, her experience came in handy to deal with several critiques within the Forces.
No matter what causes mistakes, what leaders want to see is just the same combination.
Surprised, Becca Reyes glanced at Flossie Wright. Under dim light, she could see Flossie’s expression was extremely calm. Becca moistened her lips, ultimately suppressing her confusion, picked up the two reference papers in her hand, and started to copy methodically.
Experienced people are indeed different. While Maxwell Moore labored until two or three in the morning, Flossie had already finished writing two self-criticisms of seven thousand words each. Becca, on the other hand, barely managed to finish two thousand words, her sincerity and introspection nowhere near Flossie, the "old hand".
"I bet you have to revise."
At Becca Reyes’ request, Flossie read her self-critique from start to finish and casually gave her assessment.
"Revise?" Becca fretfully gripped her pen, undecided about whether to revise or not. Seeing Flossie rise and start packing, doubt surged in her mind, "You won’t be..."
"Yep." Flossie nodded slightly, put away her things silently, and then walked straight towards the door.
After brief hesitation, between her ability and finishing her self-critique, Becca clenched her teeth and finally couldn’t resist. She quickly tidied her things and rushed out, following Flossie.
The night was peaceful, with a cool breeze blowing.
The dormitory was not far from the drill ground, and noises could be heard as soon as she stepped out, with voices shouting and creating a ruckus with unknown activities.
"They’re all training. Is it appropriate for us to go there like this?"
As Becca contemplated, she stretched her limbs. She wasn’t exactly a diligent student. From childhood to adulthood, her grades had been slightly above average, and her university was not very famous. She just coped with studies. Now spending several hours wrestling with paper and pen was indeed a torment for her.
Flossie raised her gaze and scanned the direction of the drill ground, then looking towards a road leading to the wilderness. "We’ll go for a run."
If one road doesn’t work, we’ll take another. There’s no absolute necessity.
"All right." Becca rolled up her sleeves, nodded energetically. She was indeed bored writing the self-critiques, and it would be nice to take a break and lighten the mood.
The night sky was increasingly deep, the gloomy clouds hiding all the stars, leaving only dim light to illuminate their path. Fortunately, this was a mountain road used by soldiers all year round. With its wide breadth, minimal obstructions and clear view, there was no need to worry about the various creatures in the grass while running.
Since they weren’t rushing and nobody was urging, Flossie and Becca, with their laid-back nature, surprisingly had the same leisurely pace. They probably reached halfway up the mountain only after running for half an hour. Flossie, carrying additional weight, was already becoming breathless.
"Should we break for a while?"
Becca wiped the sweat off her forehead and, considering Flossie’s condition, asked with uncharacteristic consideration.
Halting suddenly, Flossie bent over and took a deep breath but extended her hand to stop Becca from moving forward.
However, as soon as she finished speaking, a stone at her feet sprung out to the side, accompanied by a faint sound. The sound seemed especially abrupt on this silent mountain.
Becca was clearly startled. On this wild mountain, they had no precautions against sudden gunfire and alarms, she immediately became furious. Yet, she wasn’t sure of the bullet’s direction; she angrily yelled towards the road ahead, "Which bastard, uh —"
The voice suddenly stopped.
Before she could finish shouting, Flossie had moved behind her, covering her mouth with her hand.
The next moment, Flossie dragged her into the nearby bushes. The sharp stones pricked them and the pain made Becca want to curse.
