But she kept getting knocked down, time and time again.
She wasn’t bad, but her opponent was stronger, so despite her best efforts, she repeatedly faced defeat.
It was clear to see: determination, composure, persistence, a willingness to admit defeat, but never giving up—it was an admirable quality, yet it was always heart-wrenching to watch.
It tugged at the heartstrings, painfully so.
Watching for a while, Maggie Summerton’s heart started to clench, both terrified by Flossie’s perseverance and distressed by her calm.
After a long moment, Rowdy Brightwill suddenly said, "She’s quite impressive."
"Huh?" Maggie Summerton was perplexed.
"She’s quite impressive," Rowdy Brightwill looked at her and said, each word deliberate, "This is face-to-face combat, but in other situations, she would have many ways to win."
Taken aback, Maggie Summerton thought for a bit, then smiled, "You think highly of her."
Puzzled, Rowdy Brightwill’s eyes took on a steely glint; he pursed his lips, then said seriously, "We all think highly of her."
Feeling a slight stir in her heart, as though he had influenced her, Maggie Summerton nodded more emphatically, "Yeah."
About Flossie Wright, the legend among the new recruits, many nearby units had heard tales of her.
Her scores in various assessments were modest across the board, except for outstanding shooting skills—nothing exceptional, but in practical operations, she always managed to be the most surprising one.
That was the reason the Brigadier himself had transferred her out of the cooking class.
This was Maggie Summerton’s first time seeing Flossie Wright, but she was genuinely coming to recognize her worth.
So what if her fighting skills were a bit weak?
That female soldier had the qualities they needed most—calmness, tenacity, and the courage to face the strong.
"By the way," after watching for a while, Maggie Summerton pondered and asked Rowdy Brightwill, "Should we change her opponent?"
If she kept getting thrown like this, it would be an issue for subsequent training.
Lowering his gaze in thought, Rowdy Brightwill considered, his voice slightly heavy, "Let’s wait and see."
Although somewhat puzzled, Maggie Summerton still nodded in agreement.
Both she and Rowdy Brightwill were combat instructors, but personally, she was a bit meek and found it difficult to make decisions on her own, accustomed to following the opinions of others.
The Captain had noticed her decent combat scores and wanted to challenge her, which is why she had been asked to become a combat instructor.
Luckily, Rowdy Brightwill was rather easy to get along with.
Forty minutes later.
Flossie Wright, battered and bruised, was having trouble even getting back on her feet.
Pain roared throughout her body, her limbs felt like they were filled with lead, and the pain in several places was so intense she could judge for herself—
She couldn’t keep training any longer!
Yet Mariana Buck still wore that light, laughing demeanor, each time she knocked Flossie down, bending over to extend a hand, as amiable as could be.
Only when looking deep into her cool eyes could one truly see, beneath those calm eyelids, that hint of coldness.
She fell again.
And that hand was extended in front of her once more.
Flossie Wright’s expression grew even colder.
The sea was cool, but she could no longer feel it; her whole body ached, dulling her senses considerably.
"Don’t touch her."
The tone was cold, each word cutting through the air.
It was Belinda Nichols.
Following behind her were Jocelyn Carrington and Becca Reyes.
Facing the suddenly departed opponent, Jessie Grain stood at a distance, seemingly puzzled as she looked over.
Flossie Wright was slightly stunned.
"Flossie, how are you?"
Becca Reyes quickly ran over, one arm wrapping around Flossie’s arm and gripping her shoulder, the other taking her arm, helping her up from the seawater.
