The night was tranquil, and the moonlight was bright.
At this moment, three people were standing on a spacious grassland.
Becca Reyes was leaning nonchalantly against a small tree, a chilling breeze blowing, causing the dry, yellow leaves on the tree to slowly fall off. Under the moonlight that resembled water, the leaves gently landed on her shoulders, then swayed and fluttered down to the ground.
Not far from her stood two people they knew quite well—
Agnes Parker and Clara Birch.
The two, dressed in their camouflage training uniforms, both had a look of impatience, yet there was a hint of nervousness about them. They stood almost leaning against each other, their gaze occasionally sweeping over Becca Reyes. Both their facial expressions and movements expressed a sense of unease.
"Are you two getting this impatient because you’ve done something wrong?"
Catching a glimpse of Flossie Wright from the corner of her eye, Becca Reyes unemotionally retracted her gaze and slowly turned it towards Agnes Parker and Clara Birch, asking casually.
"You’re the one who’s done something wrong!" Clara Birch felt a sudden pain in her arm, tightly held by Agnes Parker. Glancing at the latter’s somewhat pale face, she felt an anger rising in her heart. Pulling Agnes behind her, she looked at Becca Reyes irritably. "Get to the point, we don’t have time to waste!"
Clara Birch seemed particularly tough, as if she was ready to leave with Agnes at any moment.
The serene night and the empty valley were suddenly disrupted, and even the night wind seemed to intensify.
The soft laughter, carried by the cold wind into their ears, elicited an involuntary shudder. In such a remote mountain area, an inexplicable sense of dreadful gloom descended; it felt as if something could swallow them whole at any moment.
Upon hearing such a cold laugh, Clara Birch and Agnes glanced toward the source of the sound and saw the person standing not far away. Under the moonlight, Flossie Wright’s refined face came into view. At the same time, the moonlight that bathed her long, dark eyes carried a chill and danger that seemed irresistible, like an unstoppable sword that shattered their psychological defenses in an instant.
Faced with such unforeseen pressure and threat, Clara Birch and Agnes were caught off guard. They felt their ward breath hitch and their bodies go rigid, as if something had just hit them hard. It took them a while to recover, standing there gasping for breath.
The cold wind howled, the moonlight splashed silver all over the ground, and Flossie Wright stood by a tree, half-hidden in the swaying shadows. The moving, patchy shadows layered on her.
The chill intensified.
Without time to change out of her casual clothing upon returning – which stood out from the uniforms of this Base – Flossie Wright looked strikingly elegant. Her long black cardigan fluttered in the breeze, outlining a beautiful curve against the night sky. Her white long-sleeved tee contrasted sharply with it. The black jeans highlighted her perfect, elegant legs, and with the short leather boots, she looked tall and slender. Her aloof temperament came across strongly, making others feel a trace of fear at the sight of her.
She was like a shadow, semi-concealed in the darkness behind her, her figure constantly flickering in and out of sight. Add to this her ominous, menacing presence, which suppressed people through sheer intimidation. Clara Birch and Agnes Parker were so startled that they could only stare at her, dumfounded.
Leaning against the tree, Becca Reyes glanced at Flossie Wright a few times and then intuitively touched her nose. Without making a sound, she moved a bit farther away from Flossie, deliberately creating distance.
