"No big deal, just no dinner for you," Joshua Bailey said with ease.
In an instant, the entire group fell into an eerie silence.
The expressions on faces varied from shock, disbelief, confusion, and even bewilderment.
One second, two seconds, three seconds.
The next moment, all hell broke loose.
"Why the hell not?"
"Why is it up to you to set the time?"
"It’s not even completely dark yet, you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?!"
Close to two hundred people, almost half of them argued.
Before they arrived here, they were the darlings of the Forces, adored by squad leaders, platoon leaders, company commanders, and battalion commanders, seldom feeling aggrieved with their own abilities in the Forces.
But as soon as they got here, their original enthusiasm and anticipation quickly wore off.
Ravaged by wind and snow, with hunger gnawing at their guts, their physical strength exhausted.
Never mind.
If the training was brutal, they could endure it.
They had just arrived and were given no food!
This was intolerable!
Putting down the megaphone, Joshua Bailey picked up the whistle wrapped around his wrist and blew into it fiercely.
"Whistle—"
The harsh, piercing sound immediately suppressed the tumultuous chatter.
Those who had been vigorously protesting, faces full of resentment and anger, swallowed their grievances in response to the sting of the whistle.
"Guess you’re right, I am doing it on purpose," Joshua Bailey said, hands behind his back, with an air of it being the most natural thing in the world, "Even if you had arrived two minutes early, I would still have a reason to deny you dinner!"
In the ranks, a Military Officer asked indignantly.
"Because I feel like it!"
Joshua Bailey spoke with a carefree attitude, utterly ignoring the group’s anger and discontent.
Was anger useful?
It was not.
Angry or not, they would still be tormented by him.
"Because you feel like it?" The Military Officer repeated in shock, his eyes bloodshot clearly hating Joshua Bailey to the extreme.
"That’s right, because I feel like it." Joshua Bailey was unfazed and deliberately emphasized with an exceptionally irritating tone, "I’m your Instructor, and I’ll do as I please."
"You’re just the Deputy Instructor," another soldier stood out and roared with rage, "Where’s your Captain? He’s the head Instructor, isn’t he?!"
"He’s not available."
Joshua Bailey replied languidly.
"Not available?" The man was furious, "As the head Instructor, he doesn’t even show his face?"
"Come here."
Shaking the whistle in his hand, Joshua Bailey gestured for him to approach.
Without getting a response, but pre-empting with a new tactic, the man was caught off guard and felt an ominous premonition.
However, under the watchful eyes of all, there was no chance to back down, so he had no choice but to move forward bravely.
He stood erect, his footsteps brisk, and even made sure the distance moved was uniform—none of his actions gave anyone a chance to pick faults.
Arriving at the very front of the formation, the man’s demeanor was resolute and composed, clearly ready to challenge Joshua Bailey.
"What’s your name?"
Moving a few steps closer, Joshua Bailey pinched his shoulder and asked with an eyebrow raised.
"Reporting, Fandy Dale!"
The man’s voice rang out strongly.
"Alright, Fandy Dale."
Joshua Bailey acted as if clearing his ears, then patted his shoulder; following that, his fingers pressed forcefully against Fandy Dale’s shoulder, twisting his body a full one hundred and eighty degrees.
