She wanted to become stronger through the rigors of the military, but Flossie Wright seemed more carefree, not wanting to be bound by the forces.
Or, Flossie Wright was already aptly tough-minded, and she didn’t need the military to aid her in anything.
Austin Shepherd watched Flossie Wright disappear, he had a previous understanding of this female soldier. Though there were some prickly parts to her personality, she was, in fact, an excellent soldier.
At least she never sought trouble during training.
However, he hadn’t had much contact with this female soldier, and his understanding of her wasn’t deep. Therefore, he couldn’t make too many judgments and couldn’t guess the reasons behind her choice.
"Sergeant Lin..."
Just as she withdrew her gaze, Becca Reyes spotted Sergeant Lin standing solemnly not too far away. She was inevitably startled, but she quickly summoned the energy to call out to Sergeant Lin.
In the cooking class, regardless of how conspicuous Becca Reyes and Flossie Wright were, Sergeant Lin was the ultimate steadying influence, he was the core of the whole cooking class group.
After a long silence, Sergeant Lin looked at the closed dormitory door. The crease between his eyebrows gradually relaxed. He shook his head slightly, seemingly to Becca Reyes, as if speaking to himself.
"Let her be."
Since it was her choice, nobody can force her.
No matter how grandiose the reasons put forth are - honor, pride, prospects - considering Flossie Wright’s temperament, she flatly didn’t care about these things, and naturally wouldn’t be swayed into agreement.
Sergeant Lin had seen many new recruits. Their goals and ambitions were pure: to protect the homeland, obtain a certain military rank, achieve something...These were all obvious. However, he had spent over a month with Flossie Wright. This secretive young female soldier never let anyone guess her thoughts, making it difficult to evaluate her.
Such a mindset wasn’t something a woman her age normally had.
However, Sergeant Lin didn’t delve into it. After all, it remained Flossie Wright’s business.
"It’s almost lights-out time, I’m going first."
Checking the time, Austin Shepherd sighed inwardly. Without any intention of lingering, he left after bidding them farewell.
Then, after Becca Reyes and Sergeant Lin exchanged few glances, they both silently turned back to their dormitories.
Late at night.
Yvonne Watson, who had been tossing and turning on her bed, finally fell asleep. The only sound left in the entire dormitory was Neal Thompson’s rhythmic snoring. The noise nagged at the already sleepless Becca Reyes even more, making her want to shut Neal’s mouth.
After some time tossing and turning on her bed, Becca Reyes leaned on the edge, stuck her head out a bit, and called softly toward the quiet bed opposite, "Flossie Wright?"
No one answered.
Becca Reyes couldn’t give up. She called again, "Flossie Wright?"
Still, no reply.

Biting her teeth, Becca Reyes abruptly sat up from the bed, with her palms braced on the bed, but before she prepared to jump off, Flossie Wright from the opposite bed opened her eyes lazily and asked, "What are you doing?"
Hearing this, Becca Reyes immediately halted.
Sitting cross-legged on the bed, Becca Reyes looked across at the pitch-black bed opposite. Seeing no sign of any movement, she hesitated before asking straightforwardly, "Why didn’t you participate in the group formation?"
Vaguely, the figure on the other side of the bed moved.
Flossie Wright rolled over, pulling the blanket tighter around her. She lazily lifted her gaze to check the situation across the bed and responded in an extremely casual and wilful manner, "Didn’t want to."
