After a pause, Flossie Wright asked, "How do you feel?"
"I don’t feel anything."
Driving steadily, Perry Reed spoke indifferently.
This is a natural disaster.
Gory, heroic, painful.
However, they had also witnessed man-made disasters, countries in civil war, life and environment being devastated, happy families torn apart, prosperous cities abandoned. People who had once been living peaceful lives became refugees overnight.
The cruelty of war is more terrifying than these disasters.
Perry Reed grew up in such a world and had become numb to any disasters.
No one, no group of people can save this world.
War is the true nature of humans.

In the face of natural disasters, people will choose to unite and help each other, demonstrating the warmth of humanity. Yet, they are also capable of causing disasters, inflicting devastation on a place.
So, since it can’t be saved, one can only accept it.
For their group, they can either grieve or face the disasters and evils of the world.
"I guess so."
Flossie continued the conversation at a slightly lower volume.
The earthquake turned into a money-making opportunity for them.
They helped transport supplies, save the trapped. They saved the ones they could, gave up the ones they couldn’t. Honestly, they didn’t feel much.
Because, the earthquake occurred in another country.
Human emotions are complex, sometimes the less emotion, the more rational. They would sympathize, but not go all out to save everyone.
"This is your country," Perry paused a bit before continuing in a milder tone, "It’s normal to care."
Lowering her eyes, Flossie remained silent.
As the vehicle moved on, the ruins outside became more frequent, occasionally showing signs of relief workers.
It was not until Flossie realized, and reached for her flashlight, did she see that everything was reduced to ruin.
Houses collapsed, high-rising buildings were reduced to rubble within seconds, and countless souls were buried beneath the ground.
Soon, the road was blocked.
"We’ll have to walk."
Looking at the obstacles blocking the road, Perry frowned in contemplation.
They had wanted to use a helicopter, but the weather here was bad – rain, wind, gloomy skies, many unpredictable factors. Neither he nor Flossie were professional pilots, flying a helicopter could potentially be dangerous.
So they chose to drive.
But now, the road was blocked, clearing the debris seemed like a huge task, they had no choice but to walk.
"Hmm, it’s not far now."
Flossie opened the door and got out of the car.
Rain was falling outside, big raindrops fell onto her, chilling her to the bone.
The rain fell on her hair, cheeks, neck, and the back of her hands, bringing a bone-chilling cold, nearly draining all the warmth from her body.
However, it still felt better than military training of swimming and resistance against cold in winter.
Flossie turned on her flashlight.
Meanwhile, Perry got out of the vehicle.
"Who are you?!"
Accompanying the rough questioning, a beam of light came from the front, shooting straight into Flossie’s eyes. She quickly closed her eyes, but the retina was still stimulated, an afterimage of the light remained, and her vision dimmed.
She shut her eyes for a few seconds and opened them again, raising her flashlight towards the source of the voice.
Two soldiers.
Army soldiers.
They were wearing jungle camouflage, a mix of blue-green, smeared with a lot of dust and dirt. Dirty.
Strangely, looking at their uniform, Flossie felt a sense of familiarity subconsciously. After pondering for a moment, she realized, she had been wearing a similar uniform just a while ago.
