The knife pierced through the clothes, into the flesh, and a sharp pain struck suddenly, causing the suspect who was about to harm the child to lose strength in his right hand. His five fingers loosened instinctively, and the knife slipped off the child’s neck.
However, before the knife hit the ground, Flossie Wright had already arrived in front of him. With a single lift of her other hand holding a knife, in no time, the knife plunged into his left wrist, causing him to scream in agony and reflexively release the child.
Flossie grabbed the wailing child with her left hand, quickly pulled out the knife from the suspect’s wrist, and stepped forward, forcefully kneeing the suspect’s abdomen, making him stagger back a few steps.
The suspect had just steadied himself against the wall when Flossie’s knife was already at his throat.
Simultaneously, SWAT members and Aaron Doom’s team emerged, guns raised, completely halting any resistance from the suspect.
Handing the suspect over to Jude Marsh, Flossie retrieved her knife, then carried the still crying child out of the encirclement.
"Twilight!"
Just as Flossie stopped, she heard a shout, tinged with sobs, from afar closing in quickly, causing her left ear’s hearing to slightly diminish.
In the next moment, she turned her head and saw an elderly woman rushing over, snatching the child from her arms.
"Twilight, are you alright?!"
Tears were still in the elderly woman’s eyes as she caressed the child’s head in surprise. However, seeing the blood on the child’s neck and clothes, her face paled slightly, as if witnessing a horrifying scene.
"It’s just a superficial wound." Flossie put the knife back, quickly reminding the frantic elderly woman with a word.
If something vital had been hurt, this child wouldn’t be able to cry out.
The suspect wanted to use the child as a bargaining chip for his freedom, so he couldn’t harm him badly. He only broke the skin; the blood looked more frightening than it was.
Flossie was merely making a subconscious reminder.
However, it had an undesirable effect.
"A superficial wound?! Bleeding this much from a superficial wound?!" The elderly woman screamed instantly, glaring at Flossie as if blaming her for her beloved Twilight’s injury, "It’s not your blood, is it?!"
Flossie’s face showed utter perplexity.
If she hadn’t been messing around wanting to see what was happening, would her grandson have been kidnapped?
At that time, through the scope, Flossie had seen many people. Beside the elderly woman, there was a grandfather pulling her several times, wanting to take her away; she simply refused to go.
However, Flossie didn’t want to argue with her.
A natural reaction for many people, covering up their mistakes, finding other outlets for their frustration, even trying to lessen their guilt by blaming others...
Flossie feared unreasonable people the most. With their poor logic, arguing with them only brings you down to their level of intelligence.
Moreover, in her logical judgement, you would never win an argument with them.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry," at this point, the grandfather hurried over, apologizing to Flossie, "She’s an impatient person. Thank you for saving my grandson."
"Thankful for what, if they had come sooner, my Twilight wouldn’t be hurt!"
The elderly woman’s loud voice immediately drowned out the child’s cries, silencing him for a moment.
The grandfather frowned, reaching to push the elderly woman, quietly snapping, "Without them, who knows what would have happened to Twilight!"
"What do you know?!"
Tightly hugging her grandson, the elderly woman raised her voice a few decibels, trying to vent her inner grievances all at once.
The grandfather was exasperated.
Women, unable to discern right from wrong at all!
However, just as he was about to speak, a hand grasped his shoulder, he turned to find Flossie standing to the side.
Instantly, his face displayed signs of guilt and apology.
Flossie smirked, indicating the grandfather could step aside, so he stepped back two steps knowingly.
Flossie took a step forward, bent down, and whispered a few words in the enraged elderly woman’s ear.
As she straightened up, the elderly woman’s expression changed abruptly, her fury dissipated without a trace, replaced by marked anxiety.
"If you’re worried, call an ambulance."
Flossie instructed the grandfather, then walked over to Jude Marsh.
Someone from Aaron’s team had already picked up her sniper rifle and handgun. As she approached, they hurriedly handed them to her.
Flossie took them, intending to ask a few questions when she was approached by a curious team member, "Sister, what did you say to that crazy lady?"
Flossie gave him a meaningful look.
She didn’t directly answer his question.
The man scratched his head, somewhat puzzled.
Dealing with unreasonable people, you must seize on their weaknesses, merely reminding her of her grandson’s injuries and his parents’ possible reactions. She knew deep down she shouldn’t stand on that side, naturally not blaming only the suspect and rescuers.
"What did you find?" Flossie asked him.
"A remote control." The man answered immediately, feeling lucky.
The remote control probably served as another means to detonate the mall’s bomb; luckily, it wasn’t triggered.
Though unclear what their intentions were, Flossie had a hunch they were stalling for time.
At the same time——
"There are more bombs."
Glenn Hutchinson’s voice came through the earpiece.
