There was no helping it. In the natural course of events, Nathan Foster and Rowdy Brightwill had become the ones to laboriously row the boat, each sitting on one side and rowing strenuously. But in order to let the two girls sleep a bit more, they intentionally maintained a certain speed.
It was almost noon when the four of them reached the shore. The 10km armed swimming was a decision that Nathan Foster made on the spot, without disclosing it to the new recruits. Although he had faith that Captain Bard Walker would handle things properly, he remained somewhat uneasy. Hence, as soon as they got ashore, he went to check on the condition of the new recruits under his command.
Meanwhile, under the "escort" of Rowdy Brightwill, Flossie and Becca Reyes finally managed to safely return to the cooking class.
Having left the house without breakfast and then spending the morning in the water, these two human bodies could not withstand it, much less when made of iron or brass. As soon as they returned, they arrived at the kitchen, and Rowdy Brightwill sent an overtly clear silent signal to the head of the team.
Seeing their completely soaked appearance, Flossie showed commendable endurance. But Becca Reyes, on the other hand, looked half-dead. Her eyes were almost closed as she squinted at the cooking captain, appearing frail and ready to collapse at any moment.
"Go and sit over there, I’ll cook you two some dishes."
The head chef gestured dismissively and spoke irritably, but he still felt compassion for the soldiers that came from his class. It was only natural for him to take care of those who needed it.
And besides, it appears that the two of them have passed the mission.
"Alright then!" Hearing that there was food, Becca Reyes immediately perked up. Her bright eyes widened as she thanked the head chef and then pulled Flossie down to sit at the stone table outside the kitchen.
The midday sun shone down upon them, casting their silhouettes. The fatigue in Flossie’s brows and eyes didn’t ease, she sat lazily on the stone seat. Becca Reyes would occasionally strike up a conversation with her but she didn’t really pay any attention, she merely responded nonchalantly when she found the conversation bothersome. She was utterly languid.
Rowdy Brightwill, standing inside the kitchen, watched their figures from afar, a weighty look flashed across his youthful face.
"How did they perform?"
While cooking, the head chef casually asked Rowdy Brightwill about the girls’ performance. Though he didn’t know why Rowdy would escort them back, but since he was here, he probably knew something.
"They did well." Returning from his thoughts, Rowdy Brightwill ceased his gaze on Flossie. His expression recovered its calm. After succinctly answering the head chef’s question, he glanced over to find the chef unresponsive. He nonchalantly added, "10 kilometers armed swimming, they completed it very well."
In a flash, there was a brief pause in the head chef’s stir-frying, astonishment flickered in the gaze directed at Rowdy Brightwill.
Meanwhile, everyone else in the kitchen heard Rowdy Brightwill’s words clearly. They abruptly halted their activities and exchanged looks of astonishment. However, as lunch was about to be served, they didn’t dare to pause their work. They held back their surprise and carried on with their duties after a few moments.
However, they all inwardly applauded: Armed swimming, ten kilometers...even if it killed them, they couldn’t finish it!
"Ten kilometers?" The head chef asked again in a somewhat uncertain tone.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to believe, however, the difficulty of such a mission was truly high; he was somewhat apprehensive.
For Rowdy Brightwill and his peers, ten kilometers was a manageable task, because they had endured tough training and their physical fitness was at its peak. Flossie and Becca Reyes were fresh from the new recruits’ training, even if the training was extremely rigorous, their physical abilities could not have improved substantially, let alone the fact they were women. To complete ten kilometers of armed swimming, they would almost have to stake their lives on it.
