Through the scope, Flossie Wright surveyed this blood-soaked world without so much as furrowing her brow once; everything was simpler than imagined.
Aim, pull the trigger.
Everything opposite her was a target.
If a head popped up, she’d shoot it; if it hid behind heavy weapons, she’d specifically target tires and artillery, while the blasts, the waves of smoke, and the scattering dirt fragments affected the Sniper’s vision but couldn’t deter the resolve to keep enemy forces out.
"Flossie, watch out!"
After blinding the second tank, Sandy Cruz’s alert rang in Flossie’s earpiece.
They had almost all seen the approaching howitzer, but no one knew exactly when the successive rockets launched or even if the rockets were aimed at Flossie by mistake or with pinpoint precision.
The rockets didn’t strike the most obvious target but strayed, and only those familiar with Flossie’s exact position realized the rockets could have the most direct impact on her!
They heard a faint response on the channel, followed by an unimaginably loud explosion!
"Boom——"
"Boom——"
"Boom——"
"Boom——"
"Boom——"
"Boom——"
In a span of thirty seconds, a total of six rockets launched, aimed at two completely different spots.
Now even Sandy and the others could realize their attack was directly aimed at their Sniper!
The destructive power and range of a single rocket aren’t enough to inspire fear, but the power of three successive rockets is clear to anyone seeing the trees felled en masse; it was unlikely anyone hidden in those two places survived!
A full thirty seconds.
Throughout the battle, only a few paused their actions.
They still had to fight; in the life-or-death moment, even the slightest relaxation would invite death over their heads!
Despite the worry, despite realizing something, they still had to face the immediate threat!
Jude Marsh paused briefly, taking a couple of seconds to glance at the thoroughly bombed locations.
Flossie and Dallion Collins were a bit away from them, and as Snipers, they were reassuringly hidden behind, as long as Snipers were present, their cover was never lost!
No one would have thought that those people would target the Snipers!
The first powerful blast targeted the two Snipers!
Jude frowned, unable to fathom this combat tactic.
Thus, Jude spoke lowly, "Sandy, contact them."
Sandy responded firmly, a hint of anger and worry surfacing on his usually calm face.
He furrowed his brow tightly, looking at Flossie’s last known position, a site ravaged beyond recognition by the rockets, undeniably creating a visual impact.
Still able——
Retracting his gaze, Sandy repeatedly reached out to Dallion Collins and Flossie Wright, during such moments, every second passing piled on anxiety, like ants crawling bit by bit in the heart, increasingly disturbing.
Not just him, others clearly exhibited a changed state, some even distracted, only reverting focus to the battle upon Jude’s reminder.
