Her words might have been blunt, but there was genuineness sparkling in Becca Reyes’ eyes.

Indeed, Becca Reyes knew Glenn Hutchinson’s rank and standing; for this two-bar two-star officer to come and train two rookies was near impossible.
Even if he had done so before, it was on his own volition; nobody knew what was going through his mind. To demand it now would be overstepping.
However, Becca still wanted to take a chance. She was not one to usually ask others for help, but in an area where she was incapable but wished to excel, she didn’t mind swallowing her pride to ask for help from capable individuals.
She didn’t see her actions as disappointing, because ultimately, she would still be the one bearing the brunt of the rigorous training.
With a faint furrow in his brow, there was no sign of surprise on Hutchinson’s face; his gaze, however, was rather sharp as it swept over them. After a brief moment, he swiveled the flashlight in his hand, turned on his heel, and walked towards the Training Ground.
He neither declined nor agreed.
Looking at his retreating figure, Becca Reyes was mysteriously puzzled and instinctively leaning towards Flossie Wright, she asked in a soft voice, "Did he agree or not?"
"He agreed."
Underneath those cold clear eyebrows, a vague insinuation flickered in her eyes as Flossie simply replied and, in the next moment, she quickened her pace to match Hutchinson’s.
Initially, her intent was to avoid any contact with Hutchinson, but now that he had agreed, there was no reason for her not to go.
Hearing Flossie’s affirmative response, Becca Reyes was startled. But there was no further hesitation as she quickly picked up her pace to join Hutchinson and Flossie on the Training Ground.
’Simple and Brutal’—these two words fully describe Hutchinson’s training methods.
He’d never take time to introduce each exercise. At most, he’d just point to the site of the exercise and let the two of them figure it out. If they knew what they were supposed to do, that was all the better; if they were unfamiliar with the exercise, as they’d never seen it during basic training, then they’d have to figure it out themselves.
At such moments, Hutchinson would leisurely stand by, marking their grades. There were no discernible warnings or hurryings from him; but somehow, they felt an inexplicable pressure, and only speeding up could alleviate it.
The training Hutchison gave today was similar to last time: seven exercises – 400-meter cross-sea obstacles, 500 push-ups and squats each, 800-meter night-time shooting practice with assembled guns, carrying logs for a kilometer run, throwing a crate full of grenades, and alternating between using horizontal bars and parallel bars.
These were the foundational drills for the new recruits during their daily morning exercises. Everyone had these exercises down rote – the best recruits could even complete the entire course in half an hour.
Under the night sky, there was an unbelievable tranquillity. The lamplight beside the road drove away the darkness covering the land.
800-meter shooting.
The two had experienced this before, therefore, this time their gun assembly speed was unimaginably quick. Any parts that landed in their hands would be identified instantly as ’compatible’ or not, then they would be either discarded or attached. That was merely a matter of seconds.
However, to Hutchinson, such skilled and rapid technique was nothing special. Or perhaps he’d just gotten used to it, his eyes as serene as an icy pool, without a hint of surprise.
"Bang, bang, bang—"
The gunshots echoed orderly under the night sky, every bullet hit its target; not a single one missed the mark.
