During the next period of time, not a single word was spoken as the five of them started to indulge in a "midnight snack."
Throughout, nobody offered Cassie Ferguson a share.
After the "midnight snack," Flossie Wright, Rowdy Brightwill, and Sandy Cruz trekked to a nearby barren hill and brought back a pile of firewood. They then took turns adding wood to the fire while the others rested with closed eyes.
Belinda Nichols and Mariana Buck, who were still serving their punishment, didn’t know what to feel as they watched the three make themselves at home on the field.
Three o’clock in the morning.
The six hours of punishment were over.
Cassie Ferguson dragged her stiff body away first.
Flossie Wright and the others lingered on the field for another half an hour, erasing all traces of the bonfire before slowly heading back to the dormitory building.
That night, they only got an hour of sleep.
At four-thirty, they got up on time to participate in the morning training of the next day.
The training was the same as always.
It was as if nothing had changed.
Those who needed to train did so, those who strived did so, and those who had complaints aired them...
Not just the trainees but even the instructors didn’t bring up the events of the previous night, let alone issue any punishment to Flossie Wright and her group.
A conflict had passed by without a trace.
Becca Reyes returned the next day, but with a sprained ankle that affected her training thereafter.
Because of this, Becca Reyes fell behind the pace of training several times.
If it hadn’t been for Joshua Bailey starving her on multiple occasions and finally giving her a break because he couldn’t stand to watch anymore, she might have truly starved to death.
Three days later.
After dinner, Flossie Wright accompanied Becca Reyes to the medical clinic for a change of dressing.
As soon as she entered the clinic, Flossie Wright heard someone calling out.
Pausing in her assistance of Becca Reyes, Flossie Wright lifted her eyes to see a woman in a white lab coat.
At first glance, she looked somewhat familiar.
But upon closer thought, Flossie couldn’t pinpoint the exact identity.
The woman in the white coat was clean and tidy, with a gentle, tranquil smile on her face that radiated warmth.
"I’m Ann Cavanaugh," said Ann Cavanaugh as she stepped closer, noticing something and smiling gently to explain, "Remember? We met during the earthquake."
After thinking for a bit, Flossie did have some recollection and nodded, saying, "Oh."
There were indeed some impressions.
Ann had lent her clothes, and with her unique aura, it was easy to remember once mentioned.
Tilting her head slightly, Ann’s eyes moved subtly as she surveyed the two and inquired, "Is it your comrade who’s hurt?"
"We came to get the dressing changed."
Flossie said in a flat tone.
Ann nodded to indicate she understood, and sensing Flossie’s indifference, didn’t continue the conversation.
She was from the Military District Hospital, not medical staff of the clinic, just there for some minor business and not in a position to treat them.
So she stepped aside.
The Medical Staff quickly came over, took out all the ointment and wide adhesive tape, and prepared to change Becca’s dressing.
"You haven’t rested properly, have you?"
As soon as the Medical Staff had taken off Becca’s shoe, her eyes widened in shock.
She had been the one to tend to Becca when she was brought in last time, and she had explicitly instructed Becca to rest well after returning, as overexertion would only worsen her injury.
Unexpectedly—
It had worsened significantly.
The entire ankle was swollen.
Pressing her lips together, Becca endured the pain and explained, "We have to train."
