"Flossie Wright, I have already arranged with the sergeant. To assess your results from your time with the cooking class and to boost my own enthusiasm for cooking, we are going to have a cooking contest this afternoon."
Jocelyn Carrington looked directly at Flossie Wright, her tone determined and resolute. Her hostility towards Flossie was undisguised.
Even Jocelyn herself didn’t know why she was so antagonistic towards Flossie. Ever since she saw Flossie and Rowdy Brightwill in an intimate moment, Flossie had become a thorn in her side. It was hard to explain her feelings, but she knew for sure that if she didn’t put Flossie in her place once and for all, she was going to stay agitated.
Standing at the entrance, Flossie squinted, sizing up the seemingly crazed Jocelyn. The provocation and disgust were no longer as simple as before, but now mixed with a deeper aversion and hostility.
Flossie’s eyes lingered, a flash of displeasure crossing her face.
"As long as you can afford to lose."
Flossie’s response was unusually carefree. After speaking, she walked into the kitchen nonchalantly, as if competing with Jocelyn was just a game and there was no possibility of losing, so she didn’t need to worry.
Her arrogance in refusing last time was no different from her bold acceptance this time.
Yet, her casualness and arrogance, in Jocelyn’s eyes, added fuel to the fire. Her already fiery eyes were now aflame, and the anger accumulating in her chest had nowhere to go. She was clenching her teeth with hatred, and if she had only an ounce of rationality left in her mind, she would have punched Flossie.
Flossie didn’t pay much attention to the competition in the afternoon, continuing with her work as usual, moving the stool to the corner to select vegetables or peel them. The way she peeled vegetables in the cooking class had made her a sensation. With the random knife in her hand, she could skilfully peel the thin layer of vegetables, impressing all the Soldiers with her nimble movements.
Therefore, when the news of Flossie’s upcoming cooking competition with the new recruit spread in the cooking class, her accumulated popularity became fully apparent.
It was well known among the cooking class that Flossie’s main job was peeling vegetables. Since they discovered she had never cooked before, they unanimously decided to not let Flossie even touch a pot or stir a spoon. She had become a renowned VIP in the kitchen.
Now, out of nowhere, she was going to compete in a cooking contest. Every soldier proficient in cooking rushed to share their skills, but Flossie, who wasn’t interested in the competition, found it perplexing to see a swarm of soldiers eagerly giving her advice.
"What the hell are you all doing, not getting any work done?!"
After placing the morning’s Steamed Buns in the steamer, the assistant sergeant finally had a bit of free time. He found no progress had been made with the ingredients—everyone was crowding around Flossie—and let out a loud yell to end the chaos, ordering the troops back to their business.
Finnie, finally getting some peace, couldn’t help but sigh in relief as they swiftly retreated.
"Flossie," the assistant sergeant approached, his expression stern. Flossie became a bit more cautious, but after hesitating for a while, he simply patted Flossie’s shoulder and whispered, "If you have any questions about cooking, feel free to ask me."
Flossie was rendered speechless.
