The sky was gradually darkening and the late evening wind was blowing wildly.
With the car window open, the cool wind rushed in, running through the hair that cascaded by her ear.
Flossie Wright leaned against the car door, watching the passing scenery outside.
Meanwhile, Perry Reed, sitting next to her, was silently watching her, imprinting the silhouette veiled in the darkness into his eyes.
In the silent car, the sudden humming vibration of a cellphone caught everyone’s attention.
Flossie retrieved her phone from her jacket pocket and glanced at the screen unconsciously, only to pause in surprise.
Remark: Glenn Hutchinson.
She frowned slightly, a sense of confusion passing through her. She seemed to have never exchanged cell phone numbers with Glenn Hutchinson.
She seldom made phone calls, only occasionally contacting Kirana Williams, Regan Wright, and Rowdy Brightwill. She always made her calls from her list of recent contacts, and therefore wasn’t aware of the status of her contact directory.
With a swipe to pick up the call, Flossie held the cell phone to her ear.
"What’s the matter?"
Her voice was indifferent, her expression unchanged.
"Are you home yet?" A smoothly deep inquiry voice, carrying a hint of softness, came in return.
Taken slightly aback, Flossie quickly recalled her encounter with Bard Walker in the afternoon. Her mind went numb, but she replied, "On the way."
After a pause, the voice came again from the other side, "Be careful on the road."
"Move out from the cooking class tomorrow morning."
"What do you mean?" Flossie was instantly taken aback.
"I am not very pleased."
Clearly hearing a hint of displeasure in the steady voice, Flossie glanced upward. For a moment, she was lost for words.
Yet, inexplicably, she found the situation rather amusing.
Given the relationship between Glenn Hutchinson and Bard Walker, his control over such minor things was perfectly normal. Yet, the thought of him handling such trivial matters from miles away somehow seemed comical.
"You cannot be this petty?" Flossie offered a wry smile.
Glenn Hutchinson replied without hesitation.
Such brazen assurance left Flossie without any reason to refuse.
After a moment of thought, she accepted, "Alright, I’ll move tomorrow."
Having achieved his objective, Glenn Hutchinson ended the call without further conversation.
Flossie put her phone away.
However, before she could finish, her wrist was suddenly grabbed and Perry Reed came forward, narrowing his cold eyes, "Who was it?"
A cool breeze swept through. Flossie turned her head slightly and, with a subtle move, slid her wrist free from his grip.
"A friend." Flossie replied calmly.
"Identity?"
"Confidential."
Perry Reed frowned, a storm brewing in his eyes, he pressed on, "Glenn Hutchinson?"
"Don’t provoke him."
She shot him a sidelong glance, warning clear in Flossie’s tone.
Hutchinson’s wild aura drew near. Perry Reed’s face showed clear displeasure and anger, "He has deceived you."
"I know." Quickly responding, Flossie’s tone was calm and serious. She added, "I’ve forgiven him."
As the words fell, the car stopped outside the Base.
The door was swung open, and Flossie was out in the blink of an eye.
Looking back, she met the pair of eyes hidden in the dark. Flossie slightly raised her brow, her eyes cold but disencumbered.
Her demeanor was lazy, a hint of a smile concealed.
With a "thud", the car door was shut.
Without any hesitation, Flossie started walking towards the entrance.
The sky was so dark it was profound. She gradually walked out of the darkness and into the orange light that illuminated the doorway. Her shadow was pulled long, stretching far behind her.
