"The boss said, anybody who dies tonight, just drag them away," Austin Shepherd grinned, imitating Bard Walker’s tone, playfully saying, "Our Marine Corps can’t afford such wastes!"
"Hehe, what if we blow them all up?" came the sly laughter from the other side.
Austin Shepherd touched his earpiece without falling for it, "Then I’d have to admire you."
"Speaking of that, I heard that their force has been stationed on your side for a few months... Will their captain participate in the exercise?"
The voice on the other side was unhurried, sounding not just curious but with some probing undertone.
So, Austin Shepherd squinted his eyes, and mysteriously uttered a few words, "Heavenly secrets must not be revealed."
"Damn, you can’t even give me a hint, brother?"
"I’m sorry, you’re our enemy now."
"Ha ha," a hearty laughter was heard on the other side, sounding very hearty, "So, by plotting with the enemy about how to kill your own forces, what would you call that?"
Touching his nose, Austin Shepherd seriously pondered for a moment then decisively cut off their communication.
To avoid unjustly becoming a "traitor", he’d better pretend to know nothing.
In the broad daylight, the exercise was still in the preparatory stage without officially starting yet, but all forces had started their own preparations.
Some were familiarizing themselves with the terrain, some were gathering information, some were standing guard...
The cooking class was very idle, extremely idle.
"Each soldier is given rations, we don’t even need to cook. What the hell are we doing here?"
Becca Reyes lay on the grassland, with boredom, gazed at the gradually gathering clouds, listlessly yawning out words.
Her sleep deprivation from last night had been dispelled by a midday nap, but with this rare, idle time, she really didn’t know how to pass it.
Flossie Wright lay next to her, with nothing to do, she replied faintly, "Making up the numbers."
So, Becca Reyes sighed deeply, then rolled over on the grassland.
Not far away, Calvin Ramos sat with Stuart Weston, meticulously cleaning their guns.
Stuart Weston was a chatterbox, who always had endless trivial things to talk about. When the two of them were together, Calvin Ramos was mostly a listener, occasionally responding.
Now their dynamic was much the same; from time to time Calvin Ramos would speak up, but he mostly concentrated on the gun in hand.
As the sky grew darker, their light dimmed considerably, but the shadow of the man cleaning his gun was deeply etched in Becca Reyes’ heart, impossible to erase.
Ah, the matters of the heart...
Truth be told, she didn’t have Flossie Wright’s level of self-control, she couldn’t manage it at all.
Suddenly, her shoulder was patted, alongside a cool voice, a hand suddenly stretched out from the air, attracting Becca Reyes’ attention.
Becca Reyes turned her head slightly to see Flossie Wright standing up.
"It’s raining, get up."
With that, Flossie Wright paused, her extended hand remained unmoved.
Sure enough, the rain began to fall, the moistened skin felt a hint of cool, she looked up to see the curtain of rain descending from the sky, then she grabbed Flossie Wright’s hand and used her strength to stand up from the ground.
